Idk if you've watched this movie called 'Dulhan wohi jo piya mann bhaye'. It's an old Hindi movie. This one reminds me of that but gender-swapped. The guy's grandfather is dying and wants to see him happily married to a 'sanskari' girl. The guy is a rich, entitled brat. But to make his grandpa happy (& I think there's some inheritance involved too - it's been a long time since I watched), he gets this 'gaon ki ladki' to pose as his wife. Of course, she falls for him.

Let's see how much this book matches up

Sounds interesting and no I haven’t watched this movie, not even heard of its name but I’m weak when it comes to knowledge in movies so what do I even know

spoiler alert : the MC here is also a brat, might not be an entitled one.

Ok finished Chapters 2 and 3 and Gawd! Archie has no filter! 🥴 I was cringing at some of the thing he said 🤮.

This one is totally going to be fake relationship and also best friend’s brother!

Looks like Kaede is getting set up with Courtney and maybe Abi and Archie? I can’t put a finger on Archie. On the one hand he’s giving gay vibes, one the other I recall something being said about him being a player with women? Idk 🤷🏽‍♀️

Yup. Courtney definitely has a thing for Kaede & probably Ross knows it too. Abi and Archie ? They don’t seem compatible to me but what do we know ? I haven’t taken a look at the rest of the series in the book. In fact this is the first time I’m reading this author’s book.
best friend’s brother is not a trope I go for but yeah it’s too early to DNF

I don’t dislike best friend’s brother but yeah we’ll see. So far I’m not ready to DNF either and Archie was kinda funny in a very cringe way

Also, I was totally imagining Miranda Priestley (from Devil wears Prada if you’ve seen it) as Lydia - when she walked in acting all haughty with that little dog cradled in her arms

@b: I had the same image Especially the way she walked in — Lydia is an unapologetic diva lol 😂

Archie is a great friend so points for that but he definitely needs a FILTER.

Gotta admit, Ross doing that mean frog trick on Violet rubbed me the wrong way. I do not enjoy bully romances. But if Violet gave back as good as she got, then I’m okay. Still, I don’t like Ross or his attitude much so far! He’s coming across as bratty and entitled.

These quotes made me laugh though:

High school girls are like zombies. Easy enough one on one, but in packs, you’re nothing but lunch.

“Couldn’t he have waited until we got married to drop me like a hot potato?’”

And Archie’s quotes about the ermm …. parlour appointment that made me cringe and laugh. Snatch patch? Who says that? Yuck!

Something tells me Violet didn’t give it to Ross after this — I am not a fan of such mean tricks either. I like pranks but there’s a difference between simple harmless ones & mean ones. This definitely falls in the latter category.

Especially his behaviour with his dad kinda made a wee bit annoyed. But yeah open mind, open mind

Finished Chapter 4 and 5. So Archie IS gay! I knew it So far this book seems like every cliched trope so playing out, but the makeover thing is something I hate. You don’t notice the person until you suddenly realize how hot they are? How shallow can you get?

And yeah, I don’t like Ross. I said it. Unless he does something that totally redeems him, I’m gonna keep feeling that way.

@b: I know right. It feels shallow especially when they profess their undying love — sorry I can’t help but feel that physical beauty did play a huge role in the “love”. ( I know I sound awfully harsh / sceptical but I’m not a big fan of basis of love being purely physical attraction.

Like I said, I don’t have a high opinion of Ross. I’m keeping an open mind just because I don’t want to DNF it so soon ( and I do hate doing it )
