She was recommended to me in a FB Romance readers group I'm in, did not know she was a Booktok phenomenon! smiley36 The Windy City series is rather good though. I'm not a fan of Sports romances in general and football pretty much bores me but this series is worth a shot (see what i did there? smiley2) I started with Book # 3 and then went on to read Book # 1 and # 2. Play Along is Book # 4. So far they've all been good. I like her writing style, she really gets into the heads of her characters and makes you understand where they're coming from, what their fears are and so on.

UPDATE: I took a break from my TBR to read something a little bit out of my comfort zone for my book club - Burning Girls and Other Stories by Veronica Schanoes. I gave it one star and that one star was for me... because I finished the book when I should've DNF'd it.

I also read Sailor Moon for the first time! I'd watched a little bit of the anime as a kid, but I was honestly more of Tokyo Mew Mew girl. It's always fun to go read older manga because the art style feels so unhinged compared to a lot of the newer manga. For Sailor Moon specifically, the juxtaposition of how cutesy the girls are drawn versus how weird and terrifying the villains and their victims are drawn really took me by surprise! (I would also like to add that I don't know a lot about art, nor am I any good at it, I just know what I like.)

I wanted to read Wolverine vs Deadpool before watching the movie and there's a reason I actively avoid reading comic books about men. (The two are very different!)

Currently Reading: Still making my way through The Final Gambit, but I did get my hands on Good Girl, Bad Blood recently, so that's my current obsession. I also needed something a little more calming to listen to while working so I decided to finally give The Henna Artist by Alka Joshi a try - so far so good!

I also briefly started listening to Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco on Spotify but after the first maybe two chapters I felt like I needed to switch to my library app because that app actually lets you bookmark parts and control the speed (Spotify does not!). While the narrator is good, she speaks just a little too fast for my liking, which is shocking because I usually have to change my audiobook speed because I find the narrators to be too slow.

I guess I'm just in a thriller/mystery/horror headspace, I don't know what that says about me. smiley37smiley37smiley37

UPDATE: I finished Good Girl, Bad Blood last night and it was just so good, I know I wouldn't shut up about Book #1, but I'm gonna be so much more annoying about Book #2. I'm a lot more attached to these characters now, so I reacted to some parts of Book #2 more intensely than I probably did for Book #1. And this might be a bit of a spoiler so apologies in advance, but there was this scene between Nat and Pip that absolutely broke me, I was sobbing that entire chapter because it was just one thing after another.

Currently Reading: After reading Sailor Moon, I really wanted to get back into manga again. I'm currently re-reading Tokyo Mew Mew, and maybe I'll even re-read all 23 volumes of Fruits Basket after.

I do also break up my manga reading with some other books - I've been making my way through The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake for a while now, I think I just haven't read such a dense fantasy in a very long time.

Finished with Better than the movies by Lynn Painter and I’m going back to my comfort read.. P.G. Wodehouse’s Joy in the Morning. It’s been years since I read this but the writing and the characters are just 🤌🤌. So glad I’m doing this re-read and rediscovering the sheer joy of Wodehouse.

Currently reading: The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon

Previous read: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

I have always wanted to read them and finally completed all three books in the series. It was a good story overall with a political theme.

UPDATE: I finally finished The Final Gambit (Inheritance Games #3) and I haven't felt this satisfied after reading a book in a while. I think Book #3 was the perfect ending to this story (for now obviously because there are more books to come) and JLB's writing (at least for me) improved with each book. The first book was painfully mediocre, but there was a certain shift in the writing style of Book #2. The characters and their dynamics were starting to become more fleshed out, and there were some scenes that I didn't expect to have the impact that they did. (There was a scene in Ch. 83 that got a single tear out of me and I'm still mad about it.) Moreover, I actually started becoming invested in the romance.

And then Book #3 was 4 stars for me (high praise coming from me because it might not seem like it, but I'm very picky about my 4-5.75 star range). There wasn't a single line that made me cringe (I'm used to Max by now) and there were some genuinely funny lines in the book. I also think this book had the best games and puzzles - they were all so interesting, but I definitely had a couple favourites. The best part though was seeing all of Avery's development - her starting out as someone intelligent with a knack for puzzles and finally growing into someone who can play games the way Tobias did as kind of like, her final form, was actually kind of beautiful to see.

It is actually hilarious how much I ended up enjoying Book #3 because I did in fact rant on here about how bad Book #1 was.

Currently Reading: I'm literally listening to The Brothers Hawthorne (Book #4) as I'm typing this out. It's weird to not hear Christie Moreau's voice after listening to her narrate the first three books (I even miss her weird Texan accent, I finally got used to it), but I'm excited to have a book from Grayson and Jameson's POVs after being in Avery's head for three books. (This is definitely a spoiler, but the prologue is a flashback of the boys as kids on Christmas morning and I love it!!)

I've always wanted to re-read Hunger Games as an adult now that I'm actively trying to get over my dislike of dystopian fiction. I had to read it for school when I was 12 and just could not get into back then.

Just finished Moonflower Murders by Anthony Horowitz and man.. it’s taken me back to the Golden era of whodunnits. It whet my appetite for mysteries so much that I’ve gone back to re-reading Death in the clouds by Agatha Christie.

I’m curious about the Hawthorne & Horowitz series, where the author has cast himself in the book. Much like this book within a book format of Magpie murder and Moonflower murders. So intriguing.. it’s like reading 2 books. Has anyone watched the series?

Magpie Murders was a favourite.. Skipped watching the show, being skeptical of it not meeting the hype..

Finished a domestic thriller recently, called "Little Fires Everywhere"

And currently reading a historical romance, "The Heiress Effect"..

I will strongly recommend another book, "The Countess Conspiracy" by the same author, Courtney Milan in this genre.. Very strong and intelligent FL, and a swoonworthy ML, who's always had a one sided crush on her..

Yeah shows do tend to do that, after the let down that was Good Girl’s guide to murder i'm inclined to be sceptical. Still.. this one has a good cast so maybe I’ll check it out at some point?

Gosh, I used to be such a HR junkie, haven’t read an HR in the longest time! Should get back to it. I recall reading The Countess Conspiracy... Sebastian and Violet, right? She’s a widow and older than him? Yep, I remember swooning over Sebastian for sure and the Brothers Sinister! Good series!
