I recently read the Living in Eden series by Michelle Rowen.
It's about a demon who takes possession of a psychic girl.

Cons : Sometimes the plot gets too winded and leaves you a bit confused.

Pros : Both hero and heroine have great characters. The writing style is funny and quirky, yet manages to give enough shocks along the way, which I love best in any book.

Overall, a great trilogy and I loved reading the books. :D

I recently finished The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins. Its basically a mystery where a huge precious stone called the Moonstone which adorns the statue of an idol is stolen centuries ago from an Indian shrine. Now in 19th century England, the stone is gifted to a young lady on her 18th birthday but on the same night is stolen again. Soon a famous detective from London's Scotland Yard is called in to investigate the case.
Pros: I loved the narrative style of the book. It does not follow the conventional format of a detective solving the case step by step. Instead it depends on several narratives of all those who were directly or indirectly affected by the diamond. Each person presents their version of the events in their own personal style and through that all the clues fall into place and the mystery is finally solved.
Also loved the amount of research that went into this book. Normally 19th century authors write a very biased version of different cultures like India and portray the natives as savages. However, the story of the stone is presented in a very matter-of-fact way even though there are small errors about the religious traditions and mythology.
Cons: Tends to lag at times during some characters' narratives but its just a minor con.
Overall a great read for those interested in works of Arthur Conan Doyle or Agatha Christie. This book is considered to be among the 1st of detective novels from England much before Sherlock Holmes made his entry.

Recently I read Khalid Hosseini's 'And The Mountains Echoed'. Its a wonderful piece of work with a very different story but so close to reality too. Its about Afghanistan's state plus about a family where a brother and sister are parted from each other due to circumstances and how drastically ther lives change.

Pros: different narratives enable us to see the situations from different point of view and in a wider scope. It touches your heart, the story and the writef has made it very vivid with his writing. Heartbreaking as it is, its meaningful nonetheless.

Cons: i really dont think this books has many cons except for the fact that some disturbing elements have been portrayed which not all communities may adhere too.

I recently read 'A thousand splendid suns' by Khalid Hosseini. It's an amazing book. I have never heard or read much about the people and culture in Afghanistan so everything was new for me. The book is really different. It's intriguing, heartbreaking, frightening, has a lot of twists and turns.

Pros: Gives you an insight in the lives of Afghan women, their lifestyle, their culture, everything is written beautifully and descriptively. You can feel the pain of the character, you can see them suffering in front of your eyes. The writing is magical, it can move you to tears :)

Cons: I don't think there are any cons as such. The only thing I didn't like (since I'm a sucker for happy endings and happy stories) is that things are always bad for women. They are never at peace. It's a good read nonetheless!

I'm currently reading The Master and Margarita by Mikail Bulgakov. It's a novel set in the times of Soviet Russia, and it's about how the Devil arrives in St. Petersburg and makes deals with political figures, rich people... Ultimately it's the love story of The Master and Margarita as well, and their ending is apparently quite sad. But it's supposed to be the best book in Modern history in Russia... and it's quite a good read. I've heard the Russian version is much better than the English translation even! It's all together a double entendre upon the bureaucratic system of Soviet Russia back then too... I think it should be given a try! Really good book! 😳
