It's so great to find someone who is crazy about fiction too. Because you can never be too old or too wise for some things in life. Like stories.

And why apologize? I wouldn't even expect too many people to know about Charulata because it's a Bengali movie and it's definitely not the most popular of Satyajit Ray's works. If you get a chance, though, do watch the movie. It is based on a short story by the Nobel laureate, Rabindranath Tagore and it is hands-down my most favorite movie.

About P.G, Wodehouse, he was an English humorist. and his stories are BRILLIANT! Light, funny, perhaps unrealistic but so warm and sunny and...magical. Give Wodehouse a shot and trust me, you won't regret it! 😉

@Bold: So true!

If I get a chance to watch the movie, I'll surely watch it!😃

As for P.G. Wodehouse, which book would you recommend first? I have my vacation and I would love to try his books!😃

The first book of his that I read was called "Young Men in Spats" and it's incredibly hilarious. Otherwise, go for the Jeeves-Wooster stories (that are really popular) or my personal favorite, Uncle Fred novels.

@bold I was under the impression it was famous 😊 because whenever I read about Ray, Charulata is also mentioned among his famous works.
I'm a big Wodehouse fan as well. I love the fact that you can just blindly pick any book of his without knowing the story and be thoroughly enjoyed by it. My favorite is Blandings Castle stories. Also like Jeeves-Wooster. They really need to adapt more of his works today.

Classic literature has always been adapted first for the stage, then gradually as movies or TV shows for a very long time. Now with every other book, from Chick-lit to Young Adult, being turned into a movie, what are your opinions about them?

if u see a classic as a movie like gone with the wind or pride and prejudice and then i think u shud take it as a movie.. don't go with the mind setup tht the whole b ook will be presented to u .. i guess the theatre dramas are best adaptations.. like i saw Macbeth as the movie .. which was really horrible , it was roman polanski's version and so chaotic ... but i saw another play drama and it was wonderful

gone with the wind .. the book .. adoptations everything was beautiful i cherish it .. even pride and prejudice BBC adaptation was beautiful so some experiments works some dont.e

and well aout the YA stories like beautiful creatures , harry potter , hunger games

i found HP 's first few parts made very well but the lasts are not upto the mark ... in beautiful creatures .. they changed the story a little but it was nice i liked it ... i found the hunger games first part very close to the book and original ... there are others .. but most of them experiments gone wrong

What has been your favorite adaptation? confessions of a shoppaholic its a chiclklit written by sophie kinsella and the movie was similar and hillarious
What was the worst? its in YA genre Breaing Dawn part 1
Are adaptations able to do justice to the original texts?in one word NO
Which ones have either exceeded or fallen below your expectations? exceeded-Gone with the wind and fallen is macbeth

Which books do you want to see on screen and which ones do you think are better left untouched?oh there is a list i wanna se.. ice series by anne stuart and then there is karen rose and her thrillers i wanna see .. the vampire academy is coming so its a relief i loved those books and they will make an awesum movie out of it i think

there was a book by sidney sheldon called if tomorrow comes .. they made a good mini series out of it but it was tht good .. like what i hoped ... i think all sidney sheldon books and paolo coelho books should be left untouched .. they are great reads but not movie material .. they made a nightmare out of verronica decides to die .. i hated it

what are your opinions about them?

I am not sure how i feel abt the latest trend of YA books being turned into movies coz i am never satisfied with it 😆😆 BUT I love watching the Tv/Movie adaptations of my favorite classics and sometimes before reading a book i watch the movie to get an idea. So yeah i do enjoy it but i guess it depends on the director, the actors they choose, how scenes are done.
There are some which are amazingly done for e.g BBC series but some are just 🤢

What has been your favorite adaptation?

1995 version of Pride and Prejudice is the my persnal favorite p&p version :') 2005 one is good as well coz Matthew Mcfayden *SWOOON* and another one North and South (2004) is hands down the best adaptation ever, BBC has done AMAZING work here. If you haven't seen it I HIGHLY recommend it. If nothing else go see it for Richard Armitage!
Right now little Dorrit is downloading and i am planning to start watching BBC's Great Expectations as well 😳

What was the worst?

THG, twilight series from eclipse onwards and now i am worried abt Divergent 😕

Are adaptations able to do justice to the original texts?

Never. The book is always superior to the film or TV adaptation. It has a certain charm which can never be captured in a tv/movie adaptation

Which ones have either exceeded or fallen below your expectations?

exceeded:
P&p 1995, North and South (2004) .

fallen:
eclipse, THG, Jane eyre

Which books do you want to see on screen and which ones do you think are better left untouched?

Untouched:
DO NOT MAKE 5O SHADES INTO A MOVIE PHULEASE I BEG YOU.

books you want to see on screen?
Atm i am really really excited abt the fault in our stars 😳

Agree with Paulo Coelho. His works are better left on print alone.

@blue, definitely agree on Mathew MacFadyen! He showed a really sensitive side to the usually haughty & proud portrayal of Darcy, which was just !
@green, I also want to watch it for Richard Armitage Embarrassed but was waiting to read the book first. Now heard such glowing reviews from you will definitely catch up on it.
@red, I guess your pleas have fallen on deaf ears, as they have already locked in on Sam Taylor-Wood (who made Nowhere Boy) to direct 🤢. I would have rather she be a bit more discerning while choosing projects.
