The more I read the vampire genre, the more I see where Steph Meyer got her "dream" from about Twilight. Maybe, LJ Smith had the same dream, only with a little witch... and had different names (Elena and Stefan)... I like Vampire Diaries MUCH more than Twilight.

There's barely any plot in Twilight, there's nothing that is leading to the climax, whatever that was. Just broing old Bella talking about how ugly she is; and how beautiful Edward is. Then there's Jacob, who she spends her "free" time with and even then she's thinking of Edward. Stop hanging out with Jake if you're still thinking and drooling over Ed. And don't say you hate yourself from hurting him... because you actually caring about him is pretty much BS.
In the Twilight series Stephenie Meyer spends about a page describing how hot Edward looks About how much Bella thinks shes ugly and how edward is so beautiful.

The Vampire Diaries... Elena is a typical popular teenager. She is a little self-absorbed but she's is strong. She values herself and doesn't waste her time jumping off cliffs and trying to kill herself. Her and stefan have their hard times but in the end; love conquers all.

The relationship between Elena and Stefan is more better than Edward and Bella. Elena is a strong character, she can hold out on her own, Bella can't. Stefan lets Elena be, he giver her space. Stefan is calm and very sweet; Edward is way over protective. Stefan's love for Elena was a pure love, not just because he lusted after her scent. Edward treats Bella as if she knows nothing, yet Stefan understood that Elena was strong willed and confident.
The main difference between the two is that LJ Smith has a firm grasp on what PLOT is, and Steph Meyer just doesn't. She's written an entire saga on uinrealistic, ridiculous love story between these two unbelievable, bland characters that never grow and never learn from their mistakes. LJ Smith has a plot built, she has reasons why people are acting the way they do. SM obviously wrote them about herself (thanks for the pic Radz) and some fantasy with a vampire where she's the center of everyone's world.
TVD is way much mature, well crafted and developed, end of story.

@ Rachna: she doesn't remember, she says. :( lol.

@ Mansi: ok.

@ dhruvi: oohh, love the analysis. and I agree, with everything. though, SS is bringing me a little down (sidetrack alert!) I've only just started it, but I hate that Damon and Bonnie are in different areas. Though I love how strong Bonnie's gotten with sensing things.

I had the twilight fever once, I adored the charecter of Edward. I did think he was the ideal lover.

I obessively read all 4 books in a matter of days. On the bus, during my lecture and any other free time i had. I was totally antisocial and my dad started to call me ''vampire'' lol.. The moment I finished it - my reaction was ''oh god, i just wasted 2 weeks of my time and 30 pounds money for nothing."
In my opinion, teenage girls who cant wait to be 'in love' would love this series. Twilight was extremly unrealistic, over the top and even stupid.
I hated bella swan since the beginning. She is a really relly bad role model, like you said. Now teenage girls thinks its ok to be obessively in'' love'' with whom they consider their ''soulmates'' and forget the rest of the world.
I can totally understand how you cant relate to ROMEO JULIET too. They met, got married, slept together (or was the order the other way round) and died all in like 10days when they were like wat ? 15 ? That is what i call extremly stupid. I dont think anyone who is 15 is able to fall in love to the extent they are willing to kill themselves for it. It was an obsessive infactuation and extremly high circulation of hormones in their bodies !! :P
Stupid Stupid
But then if you think about it , most fictional lovestories are so out of order.

Radz SS was a real downer for me as well. But I would rather read that a 100 times than read any of the Twilight 10 times. Semi-spoiler: We barely get Bamon together in this book. & Elena will frustrate you. But on the plus side, Bonnie became my fave character because of this book. She growing and getting stronger every book, every page.
Sunita You're not alone. Back before it was popular I had the Twilight fever as well. I actually wanted everyone to talk about it because I love it. Then I saw what happened when people did start loving it. In the beginning it was nice then I started hating the books. Then I reread it I realized what did I find so lovable. & you're right, it was the fact that I can't wait to fall in love. I'm a dreamer... but the love was way farfetched and unrealistic that I got disgusted. & I totally agree on Romeo and Juliet thing. Though I bet it was more realistic back in those days than now...

Okay so I totally just found this, don't kill me! *ducks* And I saw that pic you put up...😆 If anyone's interested, I got it from www.tvtropes.org, under the 'Twilight' page, it was somewhere there. (This is the tvtropes page: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Twilight (it's under 'Author Avatar') and this is where the picture is http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/6206/stephaniemeyer.jpg)Tvtropes is awesome. But I'm digressing.

I totally agree with what Dhruvi says.

Bella spends way too much time drooling over Edward and going on and on and on about how he's like a Greek god (which, as an English major who just did Classical Lit last sem, is offensive to Greek gods!!!!) and how she's so average but every guy in school has fallen for her. It just screams Mary Sue. Elena, on the other hand, actually has a personality. She has a strength to her that Bella lacks, and although both are ready to die for their loves, it's Elena's brains and her strength that makes her a more noble character than Bella.

And Edward is so...Yes, his 18th-century or whatever (pardon me, I'm not too clear on the details) mannerisms are awfully enchanting, but he's so...self-deprecating...or something. (I'm sorry, the words are just totally escaping me today...) And okay yeah we get that he has to stay away from her because he's afraid he'll hurt her, but isn't he undermining her own strength in a way? Edward treats Bella like a porcelain doll, which, okay, humans are to vampires, but there's something awfully derogatory in the way Edward handles Bella. Stefan, on the other hand, respects Elena and treats her as a sort of equal. As Dhruvi mentioned, they are genuinely in love with one another, and there's a purity to their love that Edward and Bella don't have simply because of the way Edward treats Bella.

And I have no idea what I just said, so if any of that makes no sense, I am very, very sorry. =D

Love,
Bhav (:

Oh and P.S. Maybe I've been too influenced by Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Supernatural and Anne Rice, but vampires most definitely do not sparkle in the sun. *facepalms*

@ Sunita: I know. Bella's just a horrible role model. She's like those MarySue chracters in FFs that I love to laugh at because of the horrible grammar and obvious self-inserts, but there's no back button to get out of the series because it's ACTUALLY a book! gah.

@ dhruvi.: haven't continued on SS yet. Focusing on my last paper first. but yay for Bonnie's growing even more! Gonna look forward to that to survive till the last book.

@ Bhav: welcome. and you are welcome *preens* I like SPN vampires. Lenore was pretty awesome.

OMG Bhav, I totally agree on all the points you brought up, especially the greek god one, hahaha.
Oh and I 100% agree on the vampires don't sparkle comment, they are creatures of the dark. Let them be or find a new mythical creature that suits your taste.
Also something in your post reminded me of this. I never really understood how Ed/Bella fell in love. Could someone please explain that to me? Like seriously. I've read all the books including Midnight Sun and I never understood. Bella saw a pretty boy, she was like oh a challenge, than she discovers he's a vampire and bam! She's in love! And Edward, omg her blood smells delicious, yum! I hate you! Takes a break, comes back, and falls in love? WTF?! It was not build up, let alone built in the first place. It just happened over a sentence. & SM expected us to believe that? If anything, I understood Jake/Bella's love. It bloomed from friendship. For Bella, he made her smile, he brought her back to life bluntly. And he always had a crush on her from the beginning which grew to actual love the more time he spent with her. Neither where in love completely out of nowhere like Ed/Bella.

Okay so in the three minutes I have before I leave for my driving lesson, let me see if I can explain why Ed and Bella fell in 'love'.

As far as I can see, Bella just thought Ed was really hot, and so, like, bam! Instant infatuation. Ed was probably just attracted to her scent, so, perhaps, instant lust. Then Bella finds out he's a vampire.

Admit it, even you've got fantasies about vampires. 😆 So that's probably why she fell even harder for him. I agree, though, that there doesn't seem to be much to their relationship apart from instant attraction and all, unlike Jake and Bella. They actually had something going on. Ed and Bells, both just seem so masochistic, like, they know they can never be together, so therefore they have to be together. Esp. for Bella.

Here's hoping my analysis makes sense! 😉 I think I'm so totally gonna do my final-year paper (in three years' time...😆) on Twilight! :D

Love,
Bhav (:
