Friendships in the film industry are as fragile as egos. New bonds are forged every day as bitter enmities spill out and at times span generations. The reason? Sometimes professional, mostly personal.
Sanjay Dutt and Sanjay Gupta were best of buddies and they also worked together. Till they had a major scrap. Sunny Deol and Raj Kumar Santoshi will not acknowledge each other's presence till today.
And these are not isolated cases. Battle lines are being redrawn and new camps created even as we speak. But even then, there are people who are unlikely to shake a hand in public or send each other expensive pens and suits in the private (nudge nudge wink wink Mr B!)

Shah Rukh Khan's PR skills are not limited to the industry alone. In 2006 Paheli was chosen as India's official entry to the Oscars and surprisingly nobody made a hue and cry about it. In 2007 when EklavyaPaheli. Which did not go down too well with Shah Rukh Khan. SRK opted out of Raj Kumar Hirani's new film and bided his time. At the Filmfare awards Vidhu Vinod Chopra was presented with the Nariyal award. SRK also made a crack about how Vinod only wins awards for films made by Raj Kumar Hirani. Needless to say Vinod was not present at the Filmfare awards. And SRK is now at a stage where he does not have to worry about the Vinod Chopras of this world.

Shahid and daddy dearest
Shahid Kapur may have a great debut with Ishq Vishq but it was followed by a low phase where quite a few of his films bombed badly at the box-office. But one director who was really keen to sign him up during his lean phase was Naseeruddin Shah. Naseer was looking for a bright young lad to play an upcoming doctor in his film Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota. He sent several SMSes to Shahid and also tried to reach him on the phone. But Shahid remained unreachable. And Naseer settled for Ankur Khanna. But he was quite upset with Shahid's behaviour.
But it wouldn't be fair to blame Shahid entirely. His father Pankaj Kapur and Naseer have been at loggerheads for close to two decades. Pankaj and Naseer are from both NSD and each of them considers himself a superior actor to the other. So Shahid was just playing safe and not wanting to upset daddy dearest. Salman's father Salim Khan was a part of the successful duo Salim-Javed. Together they delivered some of biggest hits in Hindi cinema such as Trishul and Sholay. Later for reasons best known to him Javed Akhtar wanted to separate. And contrary to what people believed the split proved disastrous for Salim Khan. Javed Akhtar went from strength-to-strength and Salim's market value dropped drastically. When Salman became a hero, he didn't particularly care for who the lyricist was. As long as it wasn't Javed Akhtar! Only once and that too after a great deal of persuasion from Ravi Chopra Salman agreed to let Javed pen the lyrics for Baabul. And where Farhan Akhtar and Salman Khan (the respective progeny) are concerned, they generally avoid each other or feign ignorance about the other's presence. Working together is definitely a distant dream!
What's the Saif-Bhansali connection?
After years of struggling with B-grade roles, Kal Ho Na Ho (KHNH) suddenly saw Saif Ali Khan change his image and firmly establish himself in the top league. Hum Tum, Salaam Namaste and Parineeta were all dividends, which Saif reaped after KHNH. Post KHNH, he also discovered his skills as compere and host. With a few witty lines from the scriptwriter and adequate backup from Shah Rukh Khan this duo put in their two-bit digs at Aamir, Hrithik and the others at award functions. But at the Filmfare awards Saif seemed to have lost it. SRK and Saif were dancing on stage in blue towels with blue war paint on their faces. The song sequence was a spoof of Saawariya.
One thing Bhansali is not known for is his sense of humour. Not only has Saif blown his chances of ever working with Bhansali, chances are Bhansali may not acknowledge Saif ever. And with Sanjay's sister Bela Sehgal all set for her directorial debut Saif might pay a heavy price for his five minutes of tomfoolery on stage.
But who knows?? According to rumourmongers Bhansali 's market value is so low he may willingly work with Shah Rukh or Saif again.
Govinda Vs Aditya Chopra
Govinda never accepted it and Rani never admitted it. But theirs was one of the liaisons, which almost everybody knew about. It lasted for a long time. But Govinda was a much-married man and refused to leave his wife. Somewhere along the way the relationship fizzled out and Rani got involved with Aditya Chopra who was also a married man. But there were no kids involved, Payal Chopra is history and if tabloids are to be believed Aditya and Rani will tie the knot any day. Govinda has more pressing concerns on his mind. Apparently he has asked Rani to return some land, which he had gifted her when they were going around. Will Rani oblige? Who knows? But it can be said with reasonable certainty that the possibility of Govinda doing a Yash Raj film are bleak...
