It is not a review only,so I have posted it here..Amitabh Bachchan's Blog
It has got late today. I have just returned from the premiere of 'Jaane tu…'. Aamir had requested repeatedly to come over. Abhishek was unable to come since he was with Aishwarya, still struggling with her measles and Jaya's mother had a nasty fall in Bhopal, where she lives and so she had to rush there.
'Jaane tu…' is a wonderful sweet film; refreshing and filled with talent that is young and relaxed. There simply is no effort that can be noticed on any actor in trying to project that they are acting. Everyone so confident and cool; if I may borrow the colloquial.
The narration of the script is novel and different. The writing is 'now' and the atmosphere young and generation next. Imran and Genelia are delightful. For Imran it certainly does not look like the first film and Genelia has the most expressive eyes and face. Such a strange coincidence. She came in front of the ca mera in her early years for the first time in an advertisement she did along with me. It was the Parker Pen add., one of the earliest ones.
The premiere brought many of us together - Tabu and Vidya and Anil and Sonam and Juhi and Jiah - all of us huddled together in one group - meeting them after ages, yet happy that we could all sit together and enjoy a delightful film.
Prateek, Smita Patil's son was so impressive in a small but significant role. His face so much his mother's. Brought back all our memories together. 'Shakti' and 'Namakhalal' and all her fears of working in commercial escapist cinema. She was a dear friend and would often just drop by the house if she was in the vicinity. A strong girl, with equally strong convictions, but caring and concerned for all. It was her premonition that signaled my impending accident in 1982, on the sets of 'Coolie'. I was in Bangalore shooting for the film and in the middle of the night I got a call from her. It was a bit surprising for me. She and I were not on telephone call terms. It was the first time I was receiving her phone and what she asked turned out to be true. She said she was worried for me and wanted to know if all was well for she had had a premonition that something wrong or dangerous was going to happen to me. I had joked about it with her. But 2 days later the accident on the set happened.
She was one of the many who prayed for my life everyday. Never ever showed it but quietly would visit Breach Candy and leave after inquiring after my condition. When I survived and came home to convalesce, she came every evening to the house to spend time and cheer me up, bringing with her a fresh set of the 'mogra', which she knew was my favorite flower.
She herself was a soft gentle and delicate human, full of compassion for others. Her death came suddenly and too too early. We needed her to be with us much much longer.
The entire film Industry had performed a concert HOPE 86 at Brabourne Stadium to collect funds for the workers stricken harshly by the Industry strike for better tax benefits from the Government. I was an MP then and on an official visit to Mauritius in a government delegation. The concert finshed at 3 am and I had rushed to the airport from the Stadium to catch my flight. It was a hopping flight via Singapore. On landing in Singapore I was informed that she was serious. In Mauritius, it was my first ever visit and Indian stars had just begun to visit the country. The hysteria was unimaginable. I have some footage and clips of that tour which I shall share with you soon. At every public gathering; and there were several, I would ask the audience to send up a prayer for Smita's recovery. In a few days when I landed back I was told at the airport she had passed away that very morning. A great artist, a lovely human and a devoted friend had left.
On seeing Prateek on screen tonight, everything came back… except Smita !
Its beyond 3 am now and I shall have to be up in a few hours to dub for a Marathi film made by Ramesh Deo. My colleague from the days of 'Anand'. He and his son and their company have made a historical and they wish to use my voice as a commentary. I shall start that by 6 am and then move on to regular shooting.
Life.. the wheel of time never stops..
