Look at Kate Winslet, after Titanic, she just let herself go and her career fluctuated with her appearance.
I agree with every thing else you said, but as an ardent Kate Winslet fan, I must disagree. After Titanic, I think she made a decision to do more arthouse films and was shocked with the success of Titanic and chose to do smaller films. Maybe this is a reason some of my friends, who are movie snobs prefer Kate to Leo, who they found kinda annoying. This is how Johnny Depp was before his success in Pirates, choosing to always do avant garde cinema. She did not let herself go. The woman has never been a Cameron Diaz and has always embraced her curves to be honest. But I would say she is fitter than alot of the girls in Bollywood. She was obviously attractive enough to marry her husband Sam Mendes (Rachel Weisz's ex).To further prove my point, here is some info about her filmography. The following were her films after Titantic Gnomeo and Juliet (2010) (in production) (voice),The Reader (2008) (post-production) ,Revolutionary Road (2008) (completed) , The Holiday (2006),Flushed Away (2006), All the King's Men (2006),Little Children (2006),Romance & Cigarettes (2005), Finding Neverland (2004) Sylvia Llewelyn Davies,Pride (2004) (TV) (voice),Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004),The Life of David Gale (2003),Plunge: The Movie (2003), Iris (2001/I) .... Young Iris Murdoch,Christmas Carol: The Movie (2001) (voice) ,Enigma (2001),War Game (2001), Quills (2000) ....
Holy Smoke,Faeries, and Hideous Kinky (1998). Of course a few of these were German and French films.
