Mithun's son Mimoh joins the club of newcomers making disastrous debuts
Image
Last Friday saw the debut of Mithun Chakraborty's son Mimoh. And going by the box office response, yet another star son's hyped debut has bitten the dust. But Mimoh need not worry. He has illustrious company as he joins the list of high profile star sons whose debut films were expected to rewrite box office history. But the films ended up being both critical and commercial disasters. While Salman Khan and Abhishek Bachchan tasted stardom in their later films, some of the other names have also not done too badly and continue to try their luck at the box office.
Image
Salman Khan:

Son of famous writer Salim Khan, current superstar Salman Khan did not debut with the smash hit Maine Pyaar Kiya (contrary to general perception). His first on screen appearance was in fact a medium budget family drama starring Farookh Shaikh and Rekha. But Biwi Ho To Aisi bombed at the box office and Khan went unnoticed. Hard to believe but Sallu wasn't even the protagonist of film. He played a character role of Shaikh's younger brother. But post Maina Pyaar Kiya Salman has never looked back.

Saif Ali Khan:

Tiger Patudi and Sharmila Tagore's son Saif Ali Khan was supposed to debut opposite Kajol in Rahul Rawail's Bekhudi. But due to differences between the actor and the director, Bekhudi took off without Saif. Khan finally made his debut in Yash Chopra's Parampara. The Firoz Nadiadwala project was also Aditya Chopra's screenplay debut. But Chopra's attempt at breaking away from romance was rejected by the audience. Saif of course had to wait for eight long years before tasting success with Dil Chahta Hai. Today he is one of Bollywood's most bankable faces.

Bobby Deol:

Dharmendra's younger son had a lavish debut with Rajkumar Santoshi's Barsaat. The same film also marked the debut of Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia's daughter Twinkle Khanna. Though the Deols left no stone unturned to promote the film, it only did average business at the box office. Bobby luckily bagged the Filmfare Debut Award that year, but had to wait till Gupt for his first hit.

Akshaye Khanna:

Vinod Khanna's son made an ambitious debut in Pankaj Parashar's Himalaya Putra. The 1997 release was packaged as a perfect launchpad for Khanna Jr. But it didn't conquer any peaks at the box office. Akshaye's sincerity of course came across in front of the camera and he bagged JP Dutta's multi-starrer Border. That film was a big hit and Akshaye even bagged all the Best Debut Awards. Khanna has since then given critically acclaimed performances in films like Taal, Dil Chahta Hai, Humraaz and Gandhi My Father.

Abhishek Bachchan:

With a surname like that it was never going to be easy to live up to expectations. But Abhishek Bachchan was all set for a dream launch. Fresh from the success of Border, JP Dutta's Refugee had tremendous hype around it. Add to that his pairing with Kareena Kapoor was expected to break box office records. But this long Indo-Pak saga went unnoticed at the box office. It was only after a dozen plus flops that Mani Ratnam's Yuva happened and Abhishek found acceptance as an actor.
Image
Sanjay Kapoor:

Coming from a family of veteran producers, Anil Kapoor's younger brother Sanjay Kapoor debuted opposite Tabu in Prem. Originally supposed to directed by Shekhar Kapoor, Prem faced several delays before it finally released in 1995. Even rumours of a linkup with Tabu couldn't save this Satish Kaushik film from disaster. Sanjay's next film Raja was a big hit but since then nothing has quite clicked for the actor.
Image
Ranbir Kapoor:

Raj Kapoor's grandson and Rishi and Neetu Kapoor's son Ranbir debuted in one the biggest films of 2007. Saawariya, directed by the ever dependable Sanjay Leela Bhansali was one of the most keenly anticipated projects in recent times. But last year's big Diwali release failed miserably at the box office. Ranbir however received positive feedback for his portrayal of a lovesick singer and has bagged films with some of the biggest banners in town.
Image
Fardeen Khan:

Son of Feroz Khan and nephew of Sanjay Khan, Fardeen was launched in 1998 by his father in Prem Aggan. But neither the music nor the plot could impress the audience and the film bombed at the box office. Fardeen received the Filmfare Best Debut Award and followed it up with an average grosser in Jungle. His performance was appreciated and Khan has since then become a regular face in multi-starrers.
Image
Zayed Khan:

Fardeen's cousin and Hrithik Roshan's brother-in-law Zayed Khan debuted in the 2004 thriller Chura Liya Hai Tumne. But Sangeet Sivan's treatment of the subject could not win the audience's heart and Zayed's debut joined the list of high profile flops. Zayed got a big hit with SRK's Main Hoon Naa but he hasn't made an impression as a solo hero.
Image
Puru Raj Kumar:

Raj Kumar's son Puru chose the Zanjeer man Prakash Mehra for his screen debut. But Bal Brahmachari was no Zanjeer and Puru was no Bachchan. Even the presence of a popular face like Karisma Kapoor couldn't save the film from disaster. Insiders say constant comparisons with his father's legendary voice sealed Puru's chances of clicking with the janta
