Kunal Shivdasani - HIJACK is not a copy

First look of HIJACK is out and apart from being noticed for its slick Hollywood ishtyle look, it has also made people sit up and question it's maker Kunal Shivdasani about the film's inspiration. After all it is hard to negate a strong DIE HARD influence when watching those 100 seconds of HIJACK.

Smiles adman turned film director Kunal, "If you ask me if there is a particular mould in which HIJACK is set in, I would be the first to admit that yes, I have taken DIE HARD as my reference point. However, HIJACK by no means is a copy of DIE HARD, AIR FORCE ONE or any other film which has an air plane playing an important role."

Divulging further about HIJACK, Kunal says, "My film is an absolute original and you would realize that once the film gets rolling. Yes, what I have definitely done is to ensure that the film meets Hollywood standards since for a film belonging to this genre, it is a must to have the technical finesse matching up with the best."

How has he ensured that?

"Well, my advertisement background has certainly come handy in doing so. I have been in the business for more than 16 years and while directing commercials I always used to wonder whether our standards in terms of choreographing action thrillers would ever match those of Hollywood. Thankfully, even if I say to myself, I believe I have been able to achieve that even though our budgets are far lower than what Hollywood offers."

Giving more insight into the film's plot, Kunal explains, "HIJACK stems from a very simple idea. There is a problem to be solved with many people stuck in an air craft that has been hijacked by terrorists. Now one person, who happens to be Shiney Ahuja, has to solve this problem and get people out safely. Now it's entirely his prerogative how he manages to do that. Simple, isn't it?"

HIJACK, which also stars Esha Deol, is aiming for a 20th June release.
