Indians are always blamed for copying the west. However, when the westerners steal Indian ideas we say that it is just inspiration and it is ok.
There is a highly reputed western designer who took the kholapure chapal "inspiration" and created the exact replica nd is now calling it his design. He sells it for over $400 a pair. The same goes for asian styles embroideries. The designers say that these are their creations and charge unbelievable prices. I bet all of the owrk is done in India also.
They are also trying to patent the neem plant which only grows in Southeast asia.
I know a gentleman who tried to sue a friend of mine beause he used the word ayurvedic in his book. This american claims that he has patented the word "ayurvedic" and so no one but him can use it.
It IS wrong for Indians to copy others, but let us be fair and also say that
it is wrong for t he westerners to copy us.
