Absolutely. I watched the Bengali original in the 80's, and it was aleardy 20-30 years old then. So the original likely dates back to 50's or 60's just like Devdas.

I heard this hue and cry over Parineeta and watched it out of curiosity. I made the association when they exchange neklaces or whatever on the poornima night, that scene was a straight lift from the Bengali version.
