Billo Barber is remake of the Malayalam film, Katha Parayumbol, starring Sreenivasan and Mammootty; in which Irrfan Khan reprises Sreenivasan's role and Shah Rukh Mammootty's. Filming for the Bollywood version is currently underway. Shah Rukh Khan plays an actor brought up in a village, who has moved out to the city. Irrfan Khan plays his childhood friend, who has grown up to become the village barber. After having drifted apart the two meet again when a film unit camps at the village to shoot a film. Shah Rukh Khan romances three women in the film - Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor and Deepkia Padukone. Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone play cameos, as two Bollywood leading ladies vying for Shah Rukh's attention. Lara Dutta plays Billoo Barber's wife, a role that was offered to Ameesha Patel and Vidya Balan but declined by both.
It is not clear if any of the four actresses will be retained in the Tamil-Telgu version of the film.
