Yash Raj vs Drona on Independence Day

Yash Raj Films' Bachcna Ae Haseeno is set to release opposite Abhishek Bachchan starrer Drona on August 15, the Independence Day weekend.

Although the banner hasn't released a film opposite a Shahrukh Khan starrer in recent years, Aditya Chopra and Yash Raj films don't have the same lack of confidence going against an Abhishek Bachchan starrer as yet. As they feel their Bachna Ae Haseena starring Ranbir Kapoor and 3 heroines will trump Abhishek Bachchan who is donning the mask of the larger-than-life Drona for the first time in his career. The Eros distributed Drona is scheduled to release on Aug 15, 2008.

Aditya Chopra may have reason to feel confident going by history of Abhishek Bachchan and Goldie Behl who is directing Drona. Goldie Behl's previous film Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai, back in 2001 was a box office washout failing to take even an initial. Furthermore Drona has been made over a period starting from 2006.


However though BISKH was a box office non-starter in 2001, Abhishek Bachchan emerged a star since then and each of his title role movies beginning with Bluffmaster in 2005 and Guru in 2007 have been hits in an increasing scale.


Earlier Akshay Kumar's Singh is King was expected to release opposite Drona on August 15th. But Singh is King backed off to August 8th leaving Drona as the solo release. But then Yash Raj moved in with Bachna Ae Haseeno starring Ranbir Kapoor and 3 heroines, and are counting that the banner along with the Kapoor scion and 3 heroines will be enough to surpass Abhishek Bachchan being invoked as a legend.

Come Independence Day 2008, the opening of both films will be awaited by the entire industry.
