Alka Yagnik, Sameera Reddy Walk Ramp At Fashion Week

S
The Wills Fashion Week's last evening Sunday saw an unusual sight - Bollywood crooner Alka Yagnik walking the ramp in a silk tie-and-dye sari for designer friend Sucheta V. Merh.

Actor Sameera Reddy too walked the ramp at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week's (WIFW) in a slinky leopard-print long dress, while Shahnaz Hussain, who runs an international herbal beauty products empire, applauded the models sashaying down the catwalk.

'Walking the ramp is an out of the ordinary situation for me. But I liked the experience. The only thing I was worried about was - tripping on stage. It happened once but I somehow managed,' Alka later told IANS.

'It doesn't mean that I am shifting to modelling,' she said in a lighter vein, adding, 'I am a singer and will remain so. I did it as Sucheta is a childhood friend and I like her style. I keep buying from her all the time.'

Asked why she had chosen Yagnik to showcase her line, Sucheta said: 'I wanted a size 10 to tell people that my clothes don't look good only on glamorous models but on everyone.'

Titled 'Autumn In An Old Town', Sucheta used jute dolls, umbrellas and flower baskets.

'I call it 9-to-midnight as my collection has all the hues from sunrise to sunset and outfits are meant for any time of the day,' said Sucheta.

The colours palette had yellows, camel browns enhanced with purples and orange.Fabrics like silk organza, cotton net, chiffon, woven georgette, fluid jersey and washed satin added to the attractiveness.

Flowing capes, floating panels in jackets, layered frills and lace effects were used to adorn the dresses, which included skirts, saris, brocade dresses, angarakha kurtas and churidars.

Actress Sameera Reddy oozed oomph, and blew kisses in the air while walking the runway for designer duo Falguni and Shane Peacock in a black and off-white leopard print dress. The noodle strap dress had a heavily embellished neckline.

'I feel doing shows is much easier for me than walking the ramp,' said Sameera, adding, 'Even though I love wearing strong colours like a bright red, I chose to wear a pale colour today. However, it felt very nice.'

'The designer duos clothes are very feminine and I like them for their strong cuts and styles,' said the actor, who sported a Barbie doll hairdo for the show.

Beauty products expert Shahnaz Hussain was among the first rows in the audience.

Falguni and Shane Peacock collection had drape gowns, shirt-waist style kaftans, slip dresses with graphical animal and floral prints. The outfits in red, rust, orange, yellow, lime, blue, red black, off-white, gold and green, were embellished with crystals and feathers.
