Interview : Aishwarya gets high on Jodhaa! |
Here are the Excerpts: What pricked you to go for an epic flick like Jodhaa Akbar? Well, when Ashutosh first narrated the script to me I was hooked. Coming from a filmmaker as good and great as Ashutosh Gowariker, this film had to be worth its penny. Also when I personally went through the script, I was awestruck to see a love yarn so deftly and delicately woven around the plot. It's unlike any other films made on the Mughal's so far since it touches the sublime aspect of their existence i.e. love. How unlike is the love story of Jodhaa Akbar from any other usual love flicks made so far? Yes, you got that right. It's definitely a love tale but has a different essence to it. It is about the love between a husband and wife, very delicately woven and presented. It is how two unlike souls come together under political pressures only to find their world in each other. And the way Ashutosh Gowariker has placed it in onscreen is simply touching.
Well, I was quite assured from the very start that Jodhaa Akbar isn't going to be an archive on historical facts. Agreed that it's a historical flick, but history merely serves as a milieu to a growing love relation between two characters. I've been always enthralled by Ashutosh's films and forever harbored this desire to work with him. Jodhaa Akbar is the right thing and the right project to team up with him. Beside, Ashutosh has handled the project with cotemporary ease that makes it worth the viewing. How was it teaming up with Hrithik Roshan for the second time? Hrithik and I share the same attitude and are fond of similar kind of films. We became great friends on the sets of Dhoom 2. Also the fact that Dhoom 2 is quite unlike Jodhaa Akbar enabled us to test our limits to the extreme. While Dhoom 2 was more peppy and animated, Jodhaa Akbar is more subtle and sublime. Ashutosh Gowariker is all praise for you. He even went on to state that you are a personification of Jodha herself. How do you take that? When a compliment as such comes from your director, it simply shows the acknowledgement and compassion of the maker. Within my Bollywood spell so far, I had the fortune to work with weathered filmmakers like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Subhash Ghai and more. But working with Ashutosh Gowariker was a different experience altogether.
After working with him and knowing him personally, I've come to respect him more than ever. He is so good in dealing with pressures and knows exactly how to ease out tensions that shooting for Jodhaa Akbar hardly seemed a task at the end of the day because of him and Hrithik. Having all said and done, do you think that you have succeeded to live up to your role? Well, I hardly share these kinds of inhibitions or apprehensions. I do a film because it excites me. That has forever been my motto. The moment Ashutosh mentioned this project to me, I realized I was doing something special. |
