Can you identify this lady? Yes, to start with she's an actress and a famous one on that. This female in Gabbar's garb is the famous yesteryear actress and mother of actress Kajol, Tanuja.

Tanuja will be seen stepping in Gabbar's shoe and counting on men with the famous line " Kitne Aadmi the ', unerringly the way Gabber did, three decades back.

Yash Patnaik's Babban Bhai V/s Bimla Tai cast always seems to be having a whale of a time while shooting. Especially when they have the veteran actor Tanuja around in a very matchless style for the first time.

"Tanuja ji is a complete sporty lady and did not show paroxysm for getting in to Gabbar's character", says Yash. "She loves to experiment with her own looks and is very co-operative", adds Yash.

"Everybody on the sets simply adore her and is very fond of her", chirps the producer. To sum it up in a few words "Tanuja ji is a part of the family, a wonderful actor to work with and an awe-inspiring human being", adds Yash Patnaik.

Well Gabbar's in awe for sure!

Looks exactly like the yesteryear character actor Motilal Rajvansh. He was great in Jaagtey Raho and the Dilip Kumar/Suchitra Sen version of Devdas.

He was, but Shobana Samarth always claimed that the kids Nutan, Tanuja, Chatura and Jay were all fathered by her husband Kuma Sen Samarth. Looking at Tanuja's picture here makes me wonder about the validity of that claim. In anycase all those people are dead and gone, and even the Indian Society has become pretty liberal, so I don't understand why Tanuja does not come clean. Motilal was very natural and a real classy actor, just like Balraj Sahani. I think in this day and age Pankaj Kapoor comes closest to their caliber.

Anyway, Bollywood should start spring cleaning their closets and liberate the skeletons now 😉

He was involved with actress Shobhana Samarth after she separated from her husband, he played the role of Samarth's real-life daughter Nutan's father in Hamari Beti, Shobhana's launch movie for Nutan. He also played her guardian in Anari, though this time the role had a villainous touch to it.

Though he was very suave and polished, and moved in high society, towards the end of his life he was in financial difficulty. He had a very intimate relationship with actress Nadira.


Actor, Naseeruddin Shah once described him as one of the all time best actors of Hindi cinema, the other being Balraj Sahni

Although a thorough gentlemen, he enjoyed gambling and races, and died almost penniless in 1965

That's the guy. That nose is a sure give away of the family resemblance. This picture is from Devdas. He played Chunni Babu in that version. I didn't know about him and Nadira. That is surprising. Thanks TallyHoji.

I didn't know this rumor. Always wondered why Nutan and Tanuja are so different and never got along.

Acting wise I would say Tanuja was more natural though she always got typecasted whereas Nutan got better roles.
