Blog: An open letter to Sanjay Leela Bhansali
By IndiaFM News Bureau, November 12, 2007 - 09:23 IST
They say, 'What's in a name!' I say..there is something! To be born as Sanjay Leela Bhansali (i'll keep it short, SLB), its a divine, a boon that comes not only with a rare creative instinct, but a much heavier responsibilities on your shoulders. Being SLB, is no easy as it is being simplest to the core!. So here I would like to point out a few things (Hope SLB reads this one!) one should keep in mind if he/she belongs to the class of SLB!

Swimming against the tides is your forte. You do what others can't even imagine. You touch the subjects that challenges not only your creative genes, but also tests the loyallty of you ardent fan following. But to take their dedications for granted, is something you should never think of. Because, the kind of viewership your movies enjoy, can hit back in a very harsh way, as they take your movies as 'Their' movies. They stand with you in your fight against your detractors, protect you, defend you and elevate you in their personal regards. But when you let them down, the wound is bit personal! Beware!

You make what you believe in. Yes, that's where your strength lies. Your movies reflect a vision, that's poetic, highly poetic and relations expanding beyond the boundaries of social and ethnic definitions. You believe in your product completely, so do we. But, sometimes being a little stubborn leads you in an altogether different terrain. Marketing and publicity are the weapons to be used and handled with utmost care. They do come with a tag saying 'Handle with Care!!' To oversee that tag, is something you cannot afford. None of your movies were so hyped like Saawariya. Also, the festive season is never the right occasion to release a movie based on a dark theme (Remember what happened to LCMD on EID??). It is always good to play safe, specially, when it's the beginning of two fresh talents!

Using Stars just for the sake of face value is, or rather was never your option. Your script needs character, not the stars. It's you who makes star out of them. But this time, in Saawariya, both Salman Khan (Completely) and Rani Mukherjee (To some extent, she managed herself!) were wasted and it was quite obvious that it was just for the sake of star values they were added in the cast! Please don't do that, atleast to Rani, whom you gave the film she will always be proud of and the performance she herself is yet to surpass!

Last but not the least! Your vision, imaginations are hard to re-create in real but your art directors have done it earlier and this time too, they succeeded really well. The look and feel of your movies translates the thoughts and emotions of your characters and that's where the strength of your scripts and direction lies. But getting carried away with the gloss and feel, and neglecting the script is something no film-maker can achieve success or acclaim with. Those visually enchanting frames and camera angles cannot cover a weak character in turn, a weak script.

To end with, I am not telling a genius how to make movies. I should not, no one should. But being an ardent believer of your cinema, this a request, a real humble one, if you are listening...please think on it.

This indiafm people are really exaggerating..they are living no stones in bringing Saawariya down..they have bogs for that..it is just sick!

I am just defending caz someone has put about 4-5 years of work in the product..we know he has put hard work in it, ya he went wrong with the story and people's entairnment factor..but it's not like he just slacked off!

They should try to help the movie by bringing out the positive..instead they are just making indirect hating blogs, pathetic 🤢 🤢 🤢

BTW: why don't they post the article about saawariya grossing the most from international production for this week, surpassing TOM CRUISE movie 😕
the article is from Washingtontimes
