As Bollywood fans await the release 2007's two biggest films – Saawariya and Om Shanti Om - which are expected to take the box office by storm this Diwali, let us look back at this year's top 5 biggest hits till now.
5. Guru –
This Mani Ratnam film gave Abhishek Bachchan the much needed solo hit after a long gap. It was also a triumph for the Abhi – Aish on screen jodi that had before Guru given three flops (Dhai Akshar Prem Ke, Kuch Na Kaho and Umrao Jaan). This semi- bio pic of legendary industrialist Dhirubhai Ambani was a slow starter at the box office but picked up by strong word of mouth. Also A.R. Rahman's music took time a little more time to grow on the fans but once it did, it benefited the film further. Audiences loved the range Bachchan Jr. displayed - playing a young man to an old man. Mithun da fans also got a reason to rejoice as they got to see the talented yesteryears' star in one of his career best roles.

Akshay Kumar – Vipul Shah jodi has always struck success (Aankhen, Waqt) at the box – office. When Vipul decided to go solo with Akki, it was a bigger success than their earlier ones. Despite opening to mixed reviews, word spread rapidly amongst the audiences and the film gradually went on to become one of the biggest "hits" of 2007. Audience loved the chemistry the Khiladi Kumar – Katrina Kaif jodi shared. This modern day Purab Aur Paschim was also one of Akshay's biggest hits abroad and his popularity with the NRI audience started equaling that of Shah Rukh Khan. 3. Heyy Babyy –
TV show host and funnyman Sajid Khan made his directorial debut deriving basic inspiration from Three Men and a Baby. It made the audience laugh and cry at the same time. This entertainer starring Akshay – Riteish and Fardeen Khan along with Vidya Balan and a little baby girl got a good opening and the business sustained consistently for the next three weeks. Akshay yet again proved to be the ace card for his makers as he almost single handedly took charge of the show. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's foot tapping music was an added bonus. Despite being criticized for heavy skin shown and some adult humour, the film got great response from the family audience. It also consolidated Akshay's image as the most bankable hero of today's times.

2. Partner –
The Sultan of Nonsense, David Dhawan had individually given a string of hits with both Govinda and Salman Khan. With Partner he got both of them together for the first time. This one was a winner from day one. Sajid - Wajid's music was already ruling the charts when the film released. Partner holds the record of having the biggest opening of this year. The film was a massive hit with the masses and surprisingly was lapped up by equal enthusiasm by the multiplex audience. Govinda made a fitting comeback to mainstream and Salman showed his court cases had no impact on his popularity. Now talks are on of making a Partner series by the same team.
Net Gross: Rs. 60,10,00,000
1. Chak De India
This film brought back Yash Raj to top form after a hat-trick of flops (Kabul Express, Ta Ra Rum Pum and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom). Shimit Amin-directed Chak De had only one popular name to boast of – Shah Rukh Khan and 16 unknown girls. With a relatively unpopular sport – women's hockey - as the backdrop this underdog story not only went to become this year's biggest hit but also gave the nation a new anthem – Chak De India. The biggest hero of the film turned out to be Jaideep Sahani's script inspired from an ex-hockey player, Mir Ranjan Negi's real life story. The film opened to an average response but by Friday evening itself word spread rapidly and then there was no looking back. Mega bucks are still rolling. Just last week it surpassed Partner's over all collections by 2 crores.
