Saawariya debuts in New York Times

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya is one of the much-awaited films of the year. The film is the launch vehicle for Anil Kapoor's daughter Sonam and Rishi Kapoor's son Ranbir, and is a story of three generations.

Produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment, Saawariya has made its splash in the New York Times, which got access to the first official teaser of the film.

Big plans

Describing the first look of the promo, the newspaper says, "An Indian woman in a flowing beaded gown glides through a pond.

A mosquito net brushes over her lover. And to insistent drumbeats of the Indian heartland, a dancing phalanx of tunic-clad women twirls."

The report also talks about the film being based on Dostoyvesky's novel White Nights and quotes Bhansali, "There was no compromise asked of the film", while discussing about a foreign studio producing a Bollywood film.

Sources close to Saawariya unit reveal that Sony has planned a major marketing strategy for the movie.

What's Saawariya about

Rumoured to be based on Dostoyevsky's White Nights. The film tells the story of a couple's chance encounter and the advance of their parallel obsessions over four successive nights.

An impromptu romance initiated in a remote town in the serene beauty of picturesque Shimla, known for its lakes, mist, heavenly snowfall, rains and the tall swaying pine trees.

The film stars three generation of actors spanning from Zoh Sehgal, to Rani-Salman and the youngest Ranbir and Sonam.
