It ain't happening: Salman Khan with mother Salma and sister Arpita
Today (August 3), Salman, Arbaaz and Sohail Khan's little sister Arpita is not celebrating her 19th birthday. The Khan family is deeply upset at Sanjay Dutt's sentencing on Tuesday (July 31), and has collectively decided called off the grand party Arpita had planned at Taj Lands End (Bandra).
Disturbed
A host of celebrities and Arpita's personal friends were expected to attend the celebration. However, a source says, "Salman and his family are in no mood to celebrate after Sanju was sentenced to six years in jail."
Confirming the cancellation of the party, Arpita says, "I am not throwing the party anymore. I was supposed to bring in my birthday at Taj Lands End, but we took a joint decision not to go ahead after Sanju bhaiya's verdict. We are very upset and disturbed, so we informed the invitees through SMS that the party had been cancelled."
Arbaaz says Arpita is a very understanding girl. "She has taken the party cancellation very sportingly," he remarks. "Sanju is like family to us. Salman, in particular, shares a very special bond with him. We stand by Sanju's family in this moment of crisis," he adds.
On her 18th birthday last year, Arpita had a lavish bash at the same venue. About 200 people had attended and the party rocked till the wee hours of the morning.
Besides family, some of the celebs in attendance included Sanjay and Maheep Kapoor, Sajid Nadiadwala, Anna Singh, Zayed and Malaika Khan, Chunky and Bhavna Pandey, Dino Morea, Nandita Mahtani, designer Surily Goel, Shilpa and Shamita Shetty, Nikhil Advani and Arpita's boyfriend Arjun Kapoor (Boney and Mona Kapoor's son).

Parmeshwar cancels Gandhi bash
Apart from Arpita Khan's party, the premiere of Anil Kapoor's Gandhi My Father (to be held at a city multiplex last night) and a post-premiere bash hosted by Parmeshwar Godrej too has been cancelled. The film, directed by Feroz Abbas Khan, takes a look at the turbulent relationship between the Mahatma and his son, Harilal.
Interestingly, Harilal used to work with Godrej, hence there are lots of visual references to the company. This is also the reason why Parmeshwar was holding a bash for the cast and crew.
Says Mrs Godrej, "We're now devoting the evening to thinking how best we can support Sanjay Dutt."
Adds producer Anil Kapoor, "We had organised a special party at Parmeshwar's bungalow in Juhu with a guest list including 150 invitees. But after the sad news came on Tuesday, there was a no question of having any festivities."
