Sanjay Dutt may be kind-hearted. I dont want to comment on that. However, the fact remains that he committed a crime. The fact that he is a celebrity has made it easy on him. He did not get charged under TADA. For all the people feeling sad for Sanjay, lemme tell you that the people who just lifted the weapons or stored them without being aware of what was in the bags got charged and convicted under TADA (a much harsher punishment). Sanjay not only bought a AK-47, but he also bought hand grandes. What security? Which army was going to come and attack him? He then gave the grenades back and kept the AK-47, which he then destoyed because the police caught up with him (another crime, destroying vital evidence). He bought these weapons from Dawoods brother. He was in contact with Abu Salem. All of these are known terrorists/criminals. Why would someone who is innocent fraternize with them. Even if he did it out of stupidity he should pay for it. If he was an ordinary citizen (without political or film contacts) he would have got a sentence of 10 years. For everyone who sympathizes with Sanjay let me ask you: are you going to feel the same for the woman who got charged under TADA because she kept Sanjay's weapons at her home for one night?

He talked about Sanjay Dutt, the topic of hot discussion in Bollywood. Well, we all feel the same about him. Honestly, I am not exaggerating, but Sanju is one of the nicest guys I have known since I came to the industry.

He helped me immensely in every possible way when I was a newcomer. I owe him, said SRK of his friend, who he says is family to him. Whenever I asked him to come over, he would make a point to drop by for sometime, even if it was late in the night.

I cannot relate to anything bad about Sanjay. I have never seen his aggressive side or his famous temper. He has always been so mild mannered and sweet, it's difficult to assume Sanju in any other form.

Destiny has its own plans for him, but we can only keep the faith. God looks after good people. I hope and pray that he gets out of this at the earliest.

Anything for Sanju

Shubha Shetty-Saha
Thursday, August 02, 2007

While the news of a Sanjay Dutt fan having sacrificed his fingers for the actor comes trailing in, friends Shah Rukh Khan and Suniel Shetty are set to lead a nationwide movement professing their support for him.

It is not surprising how every person in the industry, who knows Sanjay Dutt, has been personally affected by the verdict against the actor. A lot of them feel that the affable and child-like actor didn't deserve this harsh a punishment However, while a lot of them are happy with just going tut-tut, close friends like Shah Rukh Khan and Suniel Shetty have apparently decided to gear up and take some action.

According to sources, the two actors have decided to mobilise not only people from the industry but also those from all walks of life. According to a source, "Everyone who knows Sanju is upset with the verdict. It is too harsh. Shah Rukh and Suniel are in constant talks as to how they can help the cause. They have decided to launch a huge movement throughout the country, taking help from different unions, associations and people. A lot of the common people are also feeling that Sanjay should have been shown a little more leniency."

Apparently, Suniel has already spoken to the hotel association and rickshaw unions, soliciting their support for Sanjay and they have agreed.

The buzz is that the actors will also draft a petition, which will be signed by many prominent people in the city. When contacted, Suniel refused to divulge any details. However, he said, "We have to do something for Sanju. Just wait and watch!"

Salman calls off Arpita's party!

By: Vickey Lalwani
August 2, 2007

It ain't happening: Salman Khan with mother Salma and sister Arpita

Today (August 3), Salman, Arbaaz and Sohail Khan's little sister Arpita is not celebrating her 19th birthday. The Khan family is deeply upset at Sanjay Dutt's sentencing on Tuesday (July 31), and has collectively decided called off the grand party Arpita had planned at Taj Lands End (Bandra).

Disturbed

A host of celebrities and Arpita's personal friends were expected to attend the celebration. However, a source says, "Salman and his family are in no mood to celebrate after Sanju was sentenced to six years in jail."

Confirming the cancellation of the party, Arpita says, "I am not throwing the party anymore. I was supposed to bring in my birthday at Taj Lands End, but we took a joint decision not to go ahead after Sanju bhaiya's verdict. We are very upset and disturbed, so we informed the invitees through SMS that the party had been cancelled."

Arbaaz says Arpita is a very understanding girl. "She has taken the party cancellation very sportingly," he remarks. "Sanju is like family to us. Salman, in particular, shares a very special bond with him. We stand by Sanju's family in this moment of crisis," he adds.

On her 18th birthday last year, Arpita had a lavish bash at the same venue. About 200 people had attended and the party rocked till the wee hours of the morning.

Besides family, some of the celebs in attendance included Sanjay and Maheep Kapoor, Sajid Nadiadwala, Anna Singh, Zayed and Malaika Khan, Chunky and Bhavna Pandey, Dino Morea, Nandita Mahtani, designer Surily Goel, Shilpa and Shamita Shetty, Nikhil Advani and Arpita's boyfriend Arjun Kapoor (Boney and Mona Kapoor's son).

Family files: A still from Gandhi My Father

Parmeshwar cancels Gandhi bash

Apart from Arpita Khan's party, the premiere of Anil Kapoor's Gandhi My Father (to be held at a city multiplex last night) and a post-premiere bash hosted by Parmeshwar Godrej too has been cancelled. The film, directed by Feroz Abbas Khan, takes a look at the turbulent relationship between the Mahatma and his son, Harilal.

Interestingly, Harilal used to work with Godrej, hence there are lots of visual references to the company. This is also the reason why Parmeshwar was holding a bash for the cast and crew.

Says Mrs Godrej, "We're now devoting the evening to thinking how best we can support Sanjay Dutt."

Adds producer Anil Kapoor, "We had organised a special party at Parmeshwar's bungalow in Juhu with a guest list including 150 invitees. But after the sad news came on Tuesday, there was a no question of having any festivities."

From Abhishek to Hema, Bollywood speaks up for Sanjay

Mumbai, Aug 3 (IANS) Top Bollywood names from David Dhawan and Hema Malini to Abhishek Bachchan say the sentence of six years' rigorous imprisonment for Sanjay Dutt in the Mumbai serial bombings case is too harsh a punishment for the star.

David Dhawan: My wife Laali and I were with Sanju on his birthday on Sunday (July 29). We had so much fun. We were so sure that he'd come out of this. Little did we know what awaited Sanju two days later! Life's not fair!

Sanju is god's child. Always ready with a smile to help everyone, me included. Do you know he got me my first break as director! I was editing his films "Naam" and "Jaan Ki Baazi" when he prodded me and got my first directorial assignment. Why just me, he even got my assistant Ajay a break as director. He has given so much to so many people, not half of it is known.

For now the industry has come to a standstill. No one wants to celebrate. No parties, no premieres. He loves my sons, got them gifts from abroad. It's really sad, because he lost his mother, wife, father - that man has gone through so much pain. When will it end?

Hema Malini: I feel terrible for him. We all go through problems. And I can feel the trauma his family is going through. But when the legal verdict is passed there's nothing we can do or say.

Abhishek Bachchan: This is very upsetting.

Priyanka Chopra: I'm shocked and upset. I wish him and his family strength and courage. I'm sure the film fraternity will stand by him in every possible way. He's a wonderful person. And since he has already served 16 months, I'm confident the Supreme Court will be lenient. I wish him all the best.

Bipasha Basu: I'm shocked. I feel very sad. He has suffered enough. His suffering should've stopped by now. All his friends feel helpless. No one can do anything.

Raveena Tandon: This is too shocking. I've known him for years. And he's the most lovable person I've met. He's a victim of circumstances and follies. The law is equal for all. And we respect the country's laws. But six years seems a bit harsh, considering the kind of person Sanjay is. My family and I stand by the Dutts in their moment of crisis. And I really mean it.

Preity Zinta: I'm deeply saddened by this verdict. In my heart I'm saying a prayer and I'm looking above for an end to Sanjay's problems. He made a mistake, but he is not a bad guy. In fact, he's a terrific guy.

Anil Kapoor: I'm sad and shocked.

Mahesh Bhatt: I get the feeling of dj vu. It's like a recurring nightmare, which just won't go away.

Sohail Khan: I'm speechless. This is just not expected.

Manoj Bajpai: I'm nobody to question the verdict. But I'm too saddened by it to even talk about it. I hope he gets bail at the earliest. My entire family is shocked. We're all praying for him. I admire the man a lot. May god bless him!

Urmila Matondkar: This is extremely sad and deeply saddening.

Madhur Bhandarkar: I can't get over the enormity of the news! The whole film fraternity is in a state of shock. My heartfelt sympathies and support for the Dutt family.

Suneel Darshan: While I have absolute faith and respect in the court's decision, I feel terribly sorry for Sanjay's plight. As a member of the film fraternity I'd like to express solidarity with his family through these testing times. In the meanwhile his absence from the industry will cause a tremendous loss as he had emerged as one of our most versatile actors. I feel a great concern for the films that would get stranded.

Vikram Bhatt: Sanjay's sentence is very depressing. I can't comment on the intricacies of the law. But as a human being I feel he has suffered enough. He's not a criminal. Just a man who made a silly mistake in troubled times when it was hard to keep one's value judgement clear.

Vipul Shah: Everyone knows he did it purely to protect his family. So to me he is a good man. At the same time according to the law his conduct was incorrect. So this was, I guess, inevitable.

Sanjay exemplifies that plight that awaits 'powerful' people who get into trouble. I feel the sentence is a little harsh. The court didn't consider all those days when he kept missing his shooting to go to courts and police stations. If the court had considered that perhaps the verdict would've seemed less harsh.

Arshad Warsi: I'm sorry I can't respond to you. If I did, it'd look like I'm trying to get publicity out of a friend's misery.
