New Delhi, July 27 (IANS) Actress Soha Ali Khan, whose performance in 'Rang De Basanti' won her critical acclaim, says she was shielded from cinema as her parents did not want her to become a Bollywood star.

'I was consciously shielded from cinema. I did not even see many Indian movies,' Soha said while attending the 9th Osian's-Cinefan film festival being held here. 'My parents did not see me as an actor and I knew if I joined Bollywood, I would make them unhappy.

'I studied in London and moved to Mumbai where I started working in a bank but I had the desire to act and I got seduced by Bollywood,' she said.

Soha, daughter of the charismatic duo Sharmila Tagore and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, has acted in around 10 films and is currently working on Sudhir Mishra's 'Khoya Khoya Chand' where she plays the role of an actress of the 1950s.

The svelte heroine, who loves theatre, says her mother gives her tips on acting. 'She does give me some tips occasionally but she has hardly praised me for my acting.

oh dats not good...well i guess her family mite not be in favour of her exposing or doing any bold scenes..as dese days almost every bollywood movie has actress wearing small gestures n engaged in sum bold stuff...but soha hasnt done any such thing...i think since she has already joined bollywood she should continue wid it...after all she might not ve made it big but through rang de basanti shez definately in da list of those who can act well...she should continue wid it n i think her family should also support her..

after all as long as its decent derez nufin rong in it ..

yeah but i've seen her mom wear really short shorts...i feel bad for her...my parents would definately support me if i was her😊

It's understandable that her mom don't praise her since she didn't do good movies.

Her mother is Sharmila tagore, the best actress according to me and my mom 😆 I watched sharmila's movie Aradhna so many times and I cry everytime.
