Tabu at the premiere of 'Cheeni Kum' at Cinemax in Mumbai Tabu is 34 and Big B is 64 and the irony is that Big B is older than Tabu's dad Paresh Rawal by six years in the movie, that's 'Cheeni Kum' for you. Big B is seen playing the role a chef in the movie, who takes pride in his profession. Tabu plays an Indian tourist, who invites his wrath by daring to criticize his 'Jaffrani Pulao' which leads to a big showdown. Big B and Tabu fall in love over food, long walks and coffee. Big B woos her not with flowers or chocolates but, a lip smacking chicken dish. The twist in he movie however unfolds when Big B pops the question. Big B flies down to India to meet his girl's dad played by Paresh Rawal and that's when the drama kicks in. Unfortunately, the second half does not live up to the mark as the movie digresses from fun to melodrama as Paresh Rawal's character of an irritated father sets the movie onto a bizarre track. Paresh starts fasting to prevent his daughter from getting married to the chef. Big B at 64 is awesome as he looks cool in the ponytail and his clothes are impressive as well, the jackets make him looks suave. Talking about performances, yet another memorable one delivered by Big B. Tabu looks completely rejuvenated in the movie as she looks beautiful and is in complete control of her character. Zohra Sehgal is funny in the role of Big B's mom and the 90-plus actress still manages to give an energetic performance. Paresh Rawal is good but, his character is too boring. Cheeni Kum is a good attempt by debutante director R Balki. We think, the movie might good well only in metros and multiplexes. The movie premiere at Cinemax at Andheri in Mumbai was attended by both Amitabh and Tabu. However, as the photographers had decided not to click Amitabh in protest against the rude behavior by his security guards with the media, this premiere will be filed in the media without his images. |
