Three Khans and a Dutt
Farah Khan ropes in 30 stars to do an item song in her new film

When Manmohan Desai pulled off a coup in 1981 by roping in the biggest stars of that time — including Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha, Hema Malini, Rishi Kapoor, Reena Roy, Kim, Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna, Kader Khan, Pran, Amjad Khan — for his song John Johnny Janardhan in Naseeb, it brought the house down. And now choreographer-turned director Farah Khan has done the same, only with bigger star power, by roping in no less than 30 stars including Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Govinda, Mithun Chakraborty, Rekha, Kajol, Karisma Kapur, Shilpa Shetty, Tabu, Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta, Malaika Arora-Khan, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji, Urmila Matondkar, Vidya Balan, Shabana Azmi, Amrita Arora and, of course, the leading man Shah Rukh Khan for a single item number in her forthcoming Om Shanti Om. "Well, it's 20 years since that song in Naseeb, and we had to step up the star power," says Farah, adding, "Seriously, Manmohan Desai's song was an inspiration. The best thing is that since Shah Rukh is acting in Om Shanti Om, it made sense to have so many stars in one song, which happens at a party — it doesn't look forced. In fact, we have stars right from the 70s till date. Getting Sanjay, Salman, Saif and Shah Rukh in one frame was quite a high." Interestingly, the film's title reminds one of the hit song Om Shanti Om in Subhash Ghai's reincarnation drama Karz which starred Tina Munim and Rishi Kapoor. Farah's film too is the story of an artist and will mark the debut of former world badminton champion Prakash Padukone's daughter, the hot model Deepika Padukone.
