I still remember this young girl who walked in my office one day, asking for work. I was busy with other films and told her to leave her photographs. But despite the disappointment, the smile never left her face. Neither Madhuri's smile nor her attitude has changed till this day. She is a fantastic actress, dancer and now a very dedicated mother.

But I have never seen her cribbing about anything or shirk any responsibility. Her middle class upbringing has made her what she is today. The film we did together – Dil to Pagal Hai, I wanted Madhuri to look like the character and not herself. So I made her change about 54 dresses before I finalised the look. Not for once did she complain. She did not even sit down for a glass of water. I always knew that the industry will call her back and I am happy that she is making a comeback in Yashraj's Aaja Nachle. She is the Queen of Bollywood and will always be so.

The whole family is involved in the effort to make Anjali's career an even bigger success. We feel that girls like her have achieved this out of nothing, and they should continue with their good performance. In fact, it is funny when Anjali's asked about how she feels in a male-dominated sport. Many of India's top shooters are female! But when we got married in 2000, she wasn't so well known.

She had accomplished quite a lot, but I hadn't heard of her so much. She was participating in a sport that was even less known. So it all began as a team. At no point of time have I ever thought that she's more successful. It's just that she's the one doing the shooting. We have participated in every small aspect of the sport together. Whatever came after that – the success, the recognition – it just happened. We're pursuing the same goal.
