Big B's daughter steps into the limelight Pallavi Jha Mumbai, March 5 She is the reclusive daughter of the Big B and Jaya Bachchan. A mother of two kids, Shweta Bachchan Nanda stayed away from the cameras, restricting her public appearances only for the causes she believes in and for friends in the industry. She walked the ramp with her legendary father and her brother for AIDS awareness and is involved in conservation work. No longer. Ending her self-imposed exile, the media shy Shweta Bachchan-Nanda has chosen television to mark her foray into the glamour world. She will be hosting a new talk show on NDTV Profit. The show, called 'Next Gen', will be on air from Tuesday (March 6) at 8:30 pm. The premise of the show is to feature achievers under the age of 40. "We are trying to showcase what young India is and what young Indians want," says Shivnath Thukral, Managing Editor of NDTV Profit. The show will be in a free-flowing interview format and will feature the who's who in the field of art, literature, sports, films, fashion and, of course, business. "The concept was interesting and I will be interacting with people of my age. I think for both the guests and me it is a comfortable position to be in," says the new host. Asked if she faced any jitters while facing the camera, the down-to-earth Nanda replied with practised ease, "Camera is something that I have grown up with. It doesn't unnerve me but I am still getting used to it." She got her cues from her illustrious parents and her famous brother. "They advised me to relax, to be myself and to make the camera my friend," she says. Clad in denims and a striped shirt, Nanda seemed confident about her new role. "On the show I will be getting a chance to interact with youth from all walks of life," she said. On her wishlist of cherished guests for the show are Barkha Dutt. Speaking on the occasion, Raj Nayak, CEO of NDTV Media, said, "The show is all about Gen X's aspiration, philosophy, ambitions and hard vision to succeed." On choosing Nanda as a host, Nayak believes that her natural charm will appeal to viewers. Currently, the show is a 12-part series but depending on the response the channel might consider extending it. As for Nanda, are a foray into films next on the agenda? We will have to wait and watch. |
