@sree

just wondering whether you did watch the SAME Koffee with karan as I did--i found SRK to be witty, tongue-firmly-in cheek and very humorous as well as sarcastic..

i also wonder whether we've been watching the saaaame KBC because the KBC i ve watched has srk laughing, joking with his contestants about themselves and making fun of HIMSELF--

and EKLAVYA is a FLOP as per boxofficeindia; so much so for VVC's sarcasm and saif; reactions about nishabd and the disgust people feel over the Big B doing that role are all over;in fact a fan even asked abhishek to tell his dad to retire in an open letter because of what he was doing in nishabd--->www.indiafm.com; HR has Jodha-Akbar but tell me--did Asoka work??Ashutosh G made Swades that was critically acclaimed but flopped. So lets talk about jodha akbar when it releases.

Also if SRK was pompous you'd think his co-stars would complain---but everyone adores SRK even people like kareena kapoor who dont like anyone at all and he is secure enough NOT to cut anyone's roles in the movies and not interfere--has anyone ever said srk interferes in roles and if VVC hates srk soo much why was srk his first choice for the munnabhai series, or for parineeta or for eklavya like he has gone on record to say??.

BTW SRK has 2 YRF films at hand as well as Om Shanti Om second only to abhishek who has jhoom barabar jhoom, drona(where he does a superhero thing)and sarrkar 2(a sequel to a very successful sarrkarr)

If srk was insecure he d never say that krrish, and dhoom 2 were amazing films, he d neevr praise rakeysh mehra's RDB??and he d neevr tell abhishek that next year he might just get the best actor award--

and to whoever said he has lot of endorsements--what IS wrong with that??isnt hrithik endorsing milano, coke, some bike, john players??isnt abhi endorsing motorola, omega watches, etc

He is needlessly comparing himself to everybody and inviting warth.....

You have your strengths man and you are good. BUT its definately not worth you praising yourself

I saw an interview where SRK had said ,

"Im an actor. a brand, a product too, where im being sold, people purchase ticket to see me. He said he is always happy when the products goes well by his endorsements, what more can i do"

Liked your arguments, friend.. 😛 Its just not the way he presented himself at this awards function yaar, its just been the way in which SRK has been conducting himself in the past few months.. As Lakshmi pointed out in the previous pages, SRK has always had the tagline that "He is the Best". But that did not come off to be bad or sarcastic bcos he really really ruled over Bollywood when he had been saying it all the time..

But now, times are changing. The competition is getting tougher. There is a Saif, Hrithik, Abhy, Aamir, even Big B and many others who are getting meaty roles, and all have really improved in their acting skills.. As the competition is getting tougher, SRK seems to have lost his ground.. He has rather been promoting himself as an actor rather than concentrating on the projects on hand. By doing all this, he is losing the originality that he had in him.

Sree,I want to disagree on a few points 😊

I STILL think SRK is the most saleable star....Hrithik Roshan might have had two huge blockbusters, but the genre of the films were such that they would have worked had ANY star played the role satisfactorily.....SRK has been through this slight lull even in 2000,when Hrithik Roshan was the toast of the nation after a sensational debut in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai,the glossies pitted SRK against HR,and showed SRK in bad light...SRK was right on the top the very nexy year....

SRK has sustained his stardom for 15 odd years,a feat in itself..HE has been through career lulls on and off,but has always bounced back..He would definitely be the numero uno all over again....Hrithik Roshan can deliver if the script cradles him,and if he is presented well(as a superhero a la Krrish,a dancing doll a la KNPH,along with an alien a la KMG)....He can pull off a superhero film,a film with an alien(KMG)and a cult film like Dhoom(which was riding on the stupendous success of the prequel),but when the film banks on his histrionics alone(Lakshya and all the other duds of HR),he hasnt quite delivered.......Abhishek's first solo hit is Guru, and he is out of contention for posing a threat to SRK....Big B's films are flopping these days,he sells only if he's paired with a younger hero like SRk,or Abhishek or Akshay Kumar....Big B works the best when presented as a package, gone are the days when he used to deliver solo hits...Big B's choice of films leaving alot to be desired, and his over exposure on silver screen(5-6 films a year) do not help either

SRK on the other hand has delivered MOST OF THE TIMES,irrespective of the genre...KANK and Don,despite being shoddy films with weak scripts, were hits ONLY THANKS TO SRK.....Had the very controversial KANK starred ANYONE else,it would have flopped.

Competition is nothing new to SRK,he has seen it before, and has invariably come up trumps..So SRK's derisive digs are not stemmed from his insecurity,he has always been burlesque, his words are always laced with satire...This might sound like a fierce pro SRK polemic, but mind you,I'm not an SRK fan,but that guy is the biggest star, and Abhishek and Hrithik are NO THREAT to him....HR and Abhi are stars who perform ONLY WHEN PRESENTED WELL/DIRECTED BY GREAT DIRECTORS,the fact that SRK's BAD films become hits stamps his BO clout ....SRK is most likely to play the villain in Dhoom 3,and he'd be at the top all over again.....Abhishek might do well in 2007,because he does have a few potboilers lined up,but Hrithik has a very dicey proposition in Jodha Akbar,a historical!...SRK has two potent mass entertainers, thus he has nothing to feel insecure about....His astringent sense of humour is HIS SIGNATURE,and it would always stay with him, irrespective of whether his films work or not...He's aging, and I'm sure such a clever fellow would be well abreast with his limitations, and he is making smart moves by taking up television and embarking on brand endorsements, and even his films now showcase him in different and more mature light(a terrorist in Karan Johar's forthcoming,a middle aged hockey coach in Chak De India)..Once in a while he might do the conventional movie, but vvery star needs an insurance project too.

Maybe SRK is just acting. It could be his gameplan for his career. As he used to often say in interviews that "I am afraid to stop being famous and afraid of not being a star!" Many stars plot their moves and careers and if, now, his role is 'faded or fading megastar not in touch with reality', maybe that's what he is acting out. After all you can't be a heart-throb forever and he may have known that from the beginning. (I think Big B looks silly romancing young heroines! 😆 ) SRK seems too switched on to turn into a cliched aging star who is still trying to cling on to his heyday! And, also, I think he still is the BEST! 😊

Musings of an erstwhile King Khan fan. Much ado about… nothing… that's the phrase right… Well Shakespeare is rarely wrong, and after all I love Shakespeare 😉

Before I begin my ramblings, I must say, for a disheartened SRK fan, I did quite enjoy his over the top complete imitation of the Big B in KBC3 and the hang over continues in all his pursuits these days.😊

So what did he do? Enacted a script – Right. Isnt he an actor, Isnt that what he ought to be doing, or rather, what he is paid for? Since when has professionalism in executing your job to perfection come under the scanner for "less than worthy" behaviour? 😃

...exactly!! what we meant! he is an actor who goes b the script so why shudnt he do this?...some were saying why didnt he change the script.. my question is why shud he change it? when he do movies also im sure he goes ahead with the movie of what he has been offered not how he wants the script to be!😛

Sarcastic, sardonic, witty, off the cuff humour, potshots, taking digs, these are all "accepted" forms of humour. Whether the person at the receiving end likes it or not, one cannot find fault with the "humour" per se. Humour can be of any kind and it is not necessary that all must share the same "brand of humour". A Jay Leno brand is as much a form of humour as is Johny Walker/ Mehmood/ Shekhar Sumar, now Sidhu/ Raju Srivatsava/ Johny Lever and the list continues. 😛

haila, u said it so nicely😳👏

Instances which were unsavoury – public perception –

a) Dig at Aamir Khan – I adore the guy and my first reaction to SRK's humour was that it is in bad taste. I continue to feel so, but that's not the unbiased mind, that's a rather biased mind which feels that SRK ought not to have taken such digs, particularly it was SRK who was kinda responsible for Aamir staying away from Award functions. But as a form of humour by the FILMFARE guys on Aamir who refuses to attend their functions – acceptable. They are entitled to do a spoof on him, that's creative liberty and nothing wrong in it. Remember, more than SRK who was merely the host, the show was that of Filmfare.

Agree!!😛

b) Calling himself a desperate actor – One way of looking at it is – he is being honest to himself. He never did act, he always hammed and it is pure chance that he is what he is today. His greatest virtues were his mesmerizing eyes, his dialogue delivery and his persona. A true actor is one who depicts the character and not himself and SRK has never been an actor. So why are we finding fault with honest? Two – Despairing remarks on oneself is also a form of humour, for they say, if you can laugh on yourself, you can laugh at the world. Perfectly acceptable kind of humour, so whats the fuss about, is it as usual, about nothing?

He even made fun of his own character and KANK too, as i said earlier its justifies and he was being the real SRK not acting over there!😛

c) Taking digs at other actors – if Sajid Khan, who is a nobody can do it, why cant SRK. At least he has achieved more success than Sajid Khan or Suresh Menon or any other mimicry artiste. In any case, what do we want? A compere who comes on stage, reads out the names of nominees and then the awardees, without any life or humour? How can we limit on the sense of humour and why should we? Cant we accept humour in every form that we see it.

Yayy u say it so nicely... even ive said it on some pages back that sajid does worse mockery so why cant SRK do it !😛

d) Abhishek was polite?😲. He is called to accept an award from his fiance and he makes a afterthought, well deliberated pause later "and you of course" comment, to which that lady in question only seemed to giggle incessantly, as is her wont, and that is being polite. As a lady, I found it insulting that he would look down on his future wife on stage, but then, when the lady doth not protest, who are we to comment. Maybe that is what she would prefer, to be an after thought.

When i saw this scene where Abhi saying "u too" i was like..ash must have whisphered from back "hey im here" 😆..obviously when someone says the line how abhi said..anyone wud think tht ash was requesting him to thank her!😆

e) And in response, a quip that a husband should possibly remember to thank his wife on the next year was a reasonable dig, considering that he was engaged to Karishma and never reached the alter with her and with so many controversies dodging their footsteps, who knows what would happen the year later.😊

Im sure Abhi/Ash they want ppl talk abt their relation..free publicity.. 😆....SRK saying u will thank ur wife hopefully next was something i liked, i didnt find it insulting at all.. though some didnt understand this as well..!😛

f) Vidhu Vinod Chopra, sensitive film maker, but a fragile ego, a man who recently made a show of gifting a Phantom to buy publicity front page space, just to promote a movie. If this person does not understand humour or that taking digs is acceptable in public life, well, can one blame the Compere of the show? Where does insecurity creep in here? For crying out loud, wasn't he enacting a script? And a good script at that, I must say, considering we have gone over 25 pages of discussions on the script alone….. I don't think any other filmfare ceremony has attracted so many eyeballs as this, and the majority publicity was always hogged by the Rekha Amitabh meet my eyes, meet my nose profiles.

V Vindo Chopra said it kinda rude..but then he tried to patch it up being funny😕

g) A dig at Amar Singh - Why not? Is he god? Don't we remember the Dubai fracas when Amar Singh and AB threatened to walk out when they were not given front row seats. One understands AB's importance at a film function, but Amar Singh, a wanna be politician of a party which is completely regional. Isn't he what they call "hanging on". So why not a dig at him? Sarcasm as a form of humour is so so so acceptable in society, Why do we have to be polite and nice all the time. Oh, being wicked is sometimes so liberating. Being sarcastic is not being impolite, its being funny.

ahahahahha!!!😆😆,..priya i love u for being sooo funnyy.. i really love this one!!!!!😆😆

h) His comment to Big B that he wont remake another film of Big B – Now that's a dig at Big B to show how small he can be if he cannot accept that another star can remake a movie in which he starred. It is a wonder that a true blue blood Bachchan fan did not quite get this dig.😆

Big B is insecure 😉..that SRK taking over his movies/show😆😆😆... but even if Amir was offered DON im sure he wud hv done it!😕

i) The fact that he accepts that he is projecting a I ME MYSELF persona shows his accepting reality. How often do you find a star who talks of anything besides themselves or their own work. I don't really mean a tv interview or a radio show or a print interview. Take a walk down reality and take a peek into the lives of these stars and you will find how vulnerable they are to public opinion. So isn't that being a I ME MYSELF.

So, what did he do wrong? When he took potshots at other artistes during last years performance, that wasn't noteable but this year, it was AB, AB Jr., HR (albeit other), Vidhu Vinod Chopra, it becomes a chink of weakness in his armour?

I have to confess, I stopped being a fan long back. I still don't like the guy. I do like AB and AB Jr. and HR (other, of course) and Vidhu Vinod Chopra, but I still did not think that SRK's act was deprecating. It was a well written, tight, funny, sarcastic and good script and enactment….. something different after a long time, maybe our first step in coming to terms with humour, coming to terms with real humour instead of the fake "oh kiss in the air" variety or the laugh under your breath variety. Oh when will we come of proper age… dear Humour

And remains the issue that SRK is over the top these days in all walks of life😆😆😆 Wasnt he always, right from his Fauji days. While other heros or stars or actors concentrated on the character, he concentrated on himself. Raj of DDLJ was SRK, Kajol played Simran, therein lied the difference, which has been the case since then. Being loud, larger than life is no crime, and in fact, isnt that how Hollywood stars behave. Staying in Mannat is almost showing a thumb to everyone else that I know I can live in the most beautiful house and sought after house in Mumbai. Isnt that crying for attention? He cries for attention all the time, thats a part of the package that SRK is.

And hence Shakespeare said, Oh my lady, tis much ado about nothing 😛

😆😆😆..i enjoyed ur post priyaa!!😉😉😉
