Jiah Khan, who plays Amitabh Bachchan's teenage love interest in Ram Gopal Varma's Nishabd, is celebrating her 19th birthday today. And all she wants is Big B's Rolls Royce Phantom as her birthday present.
Says the actress, "My dream birthday gift this year has to be Mr Bachchan's Rolls Royce. I know everything there is to know about that car because I'm a fanatic for cars.
I don't like handbags, shoes or accessories, but I adore anything that has to do with cars and gadgets. I lived in a part of London where some of the best cars could be seen, so whenever I would see a Rolls Royce, it was almost like it was beckoning me with its mysterious aura.
I want Mr Bachchan's car because I have seen it, I love it and there aren't that many cars like it."
Party time!
Jiah says that she signed Nishabd in February last year, so "funnily enough, Nishabd was my biggest birthday present last year."
Is she throwing a party today? "Last night mom (Rabia) and I binged on junk food at home.
But today, for the first time in my life, I'm having a small get-together. I have invited a few people to come for the party from the Nishabd unit. I have never had a birthday party, as I was an introvert and very scared as a child. In the past, whenever I would invite my school friends over, no one came.
Today, I hope they do as I have come a long way from a geek to celebrity. So many things in my life have changed. I hope other things will change as well…" Will she be inviting Ramu and Amitabh too? "No. Ramu hates birthdays so he won't come. I'm too in awe of Mr Bachchan to invite him. If he did come, my hands would shake so much I wouldn't be able to cut the cake! I'll probably just stand there and stare at him!"
Geek alert!
Talking about her geeky childhood in London, Jiah says that her mother would make her dress like a nerd so she wouldn't attract guys.
"I was a geek in the true sense — getting only A-levels and be the teachers' pet. Mum would dress me in a man's shirt with combat trousers and oil my hair.
That's the way I would go to school. Mum wanted to make sure that no one would be attracted to me. But after two years of looking like a geek, I smartened up. I would leave home and then change at a friend's place into prettier clothes," she says.
So how did the change from geek to bombshell happen? "It was natural, but I am still quite a tomboy. I can't sit and get a manicure done. I don't think I am sexy at all. I've been conditioned to think I'm still a geek!" |
