It's common knowledge in the industry that in recent years, there has been no love lost between the three big Khans -- actors Aamir, Shah Rukh and Salman. But whenever the trio meet in social situations, they have been extremely cordial to each other. So it came as a surprise to industry types when three stars descended upon Salman Khan's Galaxy apartments recently one night for a spot of bonding, Khan-ishtyle.
But first, a quick flashback. The two Khans, Salman and Aamir, have not had such a great past. They were at loggerheads during the making of Raj Kumar Santoshi's Andaz Apna Apna, with Salman accusing Aamir of undercutting his scenes. Post Andaz... the duo stayed away from each other. They would be polite when they met at social situations. But of late, Aamir and Salman Khan have been spending a lot of time together. One such occasion when the duo were together, Salman decided to invite Shah Rukh too to join in the shindig. Accordingly, after the premiere of Paheli, Shah Rukh drove straight to Salman's Galaxy apartments.
For those who came in late, Salman and Shah Rukh have known each other for years now. When Shah Rukh started his career in films, he and wife Gauri would spend time at Khan's pad. Years later, the two friends fell out over Aishwarya Rai's exit from Shah Rukh Khan's home production Chalte Chalte. Only recently, both SRK and Salman had made up in true dramatic filmi style at Farah Khan's marriage.
As for Aamir and Shah Rukh, they were never great friends. Director Raj Kumar Santoshi did try to bring the two together in a film. But the project came unstuck as Santoshi couldn't get the duo for a single story session.
To cut a long story short, the three Khans met. Food and drink flowed freely and there was some heavy duty ribbing. In fact, Shah Rukh Khan was quite surprised to hear the normally reticent Aamir's use of colourful words. To that Aamir responded that he was 'in character' for his role in Rang De Basanti as a garrulous yuppie. Perhaps Aamir was spending time with the other two, to absorb their sense of joie de vivre. Besides locker room jokes and gossip, what is certain is that night, topics like Aishwarya Rai and Vivek Oberoi were not discussed.
It could indeed be said that the stars came alive in the 'Galaxy' that night. So will it be a matter of time before an enterprising director casts the three Khans together? Now that would be the industry's biggest casting coup.
