I have never had it, but to say burnt cake is just an exaggeration.

Aj kal toh veggie starters bhi aise hi dete hai... There is a name for it am unable to recall it as of now.

In cookery shows they show some recipe like these. It must be adding some new flavor to it..

Tofu n cheese r many time left for fungus to grow on them resulting in hairy tofu n blue cheese respectively.

Brinjal is burnt directly on cow dung cakes n is said to have very nice taste.
