I think Asok Kumar was a superstar and also Akshay Kumar. Sunny Deol too.

Maybe Ashok Kumar.

Not Akshay or Sunny in the sense of era defining stars.

Sunny is the one and only action superstar India has ever seen. How is that not era defining? Akshay I think is the one who mainstreamed and normalized being comical and self deprecating for the main lead of a movie. Now it is a genre in itself and many stars like Karthik are vying for that same status. No?

Salman and Sanjay Dutt are action stars. From that generation, Salman will be known as the era definer in action.

I don't even like Salman. But no one comes close to him in superstardom. Not even SRK, sadly.

Salman is not action star though. Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Shwarzanegger, Dwayne Johnson can be called as action superstars and we have only Sunny Deol from the Hindi Cinema whose movies can be touted as pure action movies. Sanjay Dutt could’ve been one too but for his extracurricular activities which took him away at his peak of the career.

Why ? Yes he makes other movies of other genres. But he has done like Pure 10/15 action movies in last few years. An even in 1990s alot of his family movies or love stories had action fights in climax.

I think because he started the action movies later in 2010. He’s a superstar but he’s not really known as action hero.

Like I said, action stars are the likes of Sylvester Stallone whose movies are purely based on action from the first scene itself. Salman’s movies by no means are pure action movies in that sense. Well, not to my knowledge at least. I am not obviously arguing about his superstar status, so please don’t get me wrong.

Edit: yes kiffla explained it better ❤️
