I don't think it's insecurity about height. The entire 90s fashion catalogue has returned including some of the unfortunate trends including platform shoes in this style. I used to rock this exact style in the late 90s and Y2K - everyone did.

I was going to say.. it's fashion. I have platform trainers too, now I am not as short as Alia but they can look quite nice if styled properly. She looks very pretty in that picture with Ranbir..
