Unpopular Opinion: Deepika and Alia are at par in acting - Page 2

I agree with the above person , Alia s career has been the same in the sense there are no lows only highs. She had KJO backing and baby sitting her to choose only the best film or producing them for her.

Whereas, DP started with a bang with Om Shanti Om but after that she had a rough 2-3 years with bad choices resulting in flop films. After that DP worked hard on her accent, dance , looks , style etc and only then did she find success. That’s hard work.

So, Alia can’t be compared to any other actress coz everything was easy for her. Yes she is a good actress but She never has had to put in any kind of effort to get a film or go through failure or have doubts on what her next movie will be like.

DP looks more glamorous but Alia is a better actor IMO. I would call Deepika above average at best, after all these years and she still sucks at delivering dialogues, and that for me is something which is hard to overlook. But I agree that both bring out their strengths in only certain roles.

Deepika aces emotional roles. She has a good sense of picking on subtlety and nuance.

I don't like alia's acting.

This!!!!! She was served "exotic food" on a platter. I refuse to praise her for "eating well".

It's not that Deepika didn't had performance based roles,she had Lafangay Parindey in 2-3 years after her debut.A role which could have made her an actress rather than just a heroine. When Alia got similar opportunity in Highway she utilized it.

I like Alia more. An these days there's several actresses I like more than Deepika

About Deepika’s accent and punctuation. What people don’t remember is that Deepika is a South Indian who is brought up in Bangalore.
Yes Ash, Shilpa are South Indians but they have grown up in Mumbai.

I’m from Bangalore and Hindi is not a language that we all use in our day to day lives. Hindi is a second language in school and not given that much importance. So for Deepika to speak Hindi fluently is a major improvement. She picked that up after 18 years too when it’s tougher to learn languages fluently.

So yes in that regard Alia will always have a better language proficiency when compared to DP.

Deepika is one of the BEST actresses in Hindi. One of the better in Indian films right now.

Alia is nowhere close. The only talent (so to speak) is her Better command over Hindi, which should be abhiven for someone born and brought up in Mumbai. So no, that is also not a big deal.

Even though Deepika had a big debut, she still went through a phase where she acted really bad and was almost written off. She wasn’t taken seriously until Cocktail happened and then she flourished

Now, with Alia…. everything was given to her on a platter. Movies were specifically curated for her and hid her flaws. Karan went around and forced directors to take her. So it’s very hard for me to respect someone like that whose journey has been so artificial and forced.

No matter how good Alia is (for me she’s not) I am really not interested in showering her with compliments. So it’s Deepika for me

Please the only reason people are so soft towards DP is coz she is gorgeous looking,in reality as an actress she is nowhere close to alia,as if she could do an udta punjab or a gangubai...she can't even do a simple 'overwhelmed with love and happiness' correctly(padmavat).All of DP fans mocking alia for not being a typical Slb heroine as if DP wasn't criticized for her performances in Padmavat n BM.

As far as pure acting is concerned,alia can do all of DP's roles,yes cocktail too.

Of course alia has received support from industry people,none other star kid in recent years seems to have received that kind of support.It is most unfair.But her talent can not be denied.She is not flawless,in highway she was good but inconsistently good,in DZ in a particular scene she was so bad.There are better actresses than her,but DP is not one of those actresses.

Also what stopped DP from acting in roles that gave her as much scope of acting as Udta Punjab provided alia with?even when alia wasn't on the scene,DP mostly concerned herself with more commercial heroine stuff.
