These are just some grievances I have, putting them forth for all to discuss. I do think the forum is amazing, but it's not balanced.

ironically, i think some of the old members are problematical. They are the bad apples who drove out the good apples. Like bad money chasing out the good. So they shouldn't be making their groubie or whatever status as a badge of honor. It aint. On the contrary, it probably reflects their ability to be sleazy and in bringing cronies to gang up because they cant duke it out on their own.

i also think talking about whether someone is a MID is actually a ruse to go after them for their opinion. It is extremely dishonest and slimy. Go after the MID if they are abusive but don't turn every perceived sighting of a MID into an opportunity to gang up and bash. I have been accused of being a MID maybe a 100 times, and they got it wrong every time except for once when I got called immediately for being cuckoocutter. And it wouldnt have made a darned difference even if I had continued!

in any case, everyone here can be a MID for all we care. It's an anonymous forum! So I dont really get this whole business of putting someone down just because they have an ID you dont recognize. Let the mods deal with it.

also, why is most of the ganging up from the anti-India/ anti-Modi crowd? Seems to be all we have been left with.

We can remove phone numbers from our Twitter/FB account unless we signed up with our phone numbers not email ID. Providing mobile number is optional otherwise. They only ask for numbers when we need to verify that it's our account, to send us the OTP code if they detect any unusual activity.

Maybe Vijay can enable a two-factor authentication to verify an email account. New members have to provide an additional backup email and verify from that account as well. Just make it a difficult and boring process. I know it won’t stop people from making ids ready in advance but it will slow the traffic down for members making mid accounts on impulse to attack members in a heated thread.

Maybe an option can be enabled that if a new account does not log in for certain period of days then they have to submit a form again or generate a code that requires them to login to both emails and submit in the forum. At this point, I’m making shit up so if there’s anyone working in IT, don’t judge me. 😒

You could AI generate form answers. It will hardly take a minute. And I am not even sure who is going to read and verify whether the forms have been filed in properly and not just spammed with garbage.

It would be simple to put a burn-in period before a new ID can start posting and hibernating old IDs that have never made a post. But there's obviously a moral hazard here, given the MIDs drive traffic and engagement. So it's all moot.

Thanks for the info. I barely use FB/Twitter. I don't even remember if my number is there, lemme go check and delete it.

Their use to be that

Every new ID had a period where they were limited in what they could do. An once like 2/3 months passed they had full privileges

I deactivated FB long back but yes, it still doesn't require your phone number unless you want to put it on your profile info.

If MID harassment is the main problem then I think keeping atleast one-two mods online at all times can be very helpful in curbing this. If the abusive mids can be banned as soon as they start acting vile then other complex methods might not be needed at all.

It's the personal attacks through mids that's most detrimental for the members and immediate action through mods can curb this menace.

No problem. Twitter sometimes log you out & ask you to verify using captcha & ask for phone number to send OTP code. So, yeah it's safe on that way. I never felt comfortable providing my phone number. With the way SNS is filled with insanity one can trust no one & nothing.
