Janamashtmi is a restricted holiday in India......people who avail this holiday usually are the ones who celebrate this festival, they don't go watch the movies....

Restricted holiday means a holiday that is optional, and it is the discretion of the employee whether they want to take leave on that particular day or not. Restricted holiday is also called an 'Optional Holiday' and it is not mandatory to close the entire office on that day.

My Dad used to take the next day of Janmashtmi OFF because we used to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna at midnight so he used to say that taking the next day off made more sense...and if we were tired we used to get to stay home too..

I know optional holiday. Things changed now. It’s a proper gazetted holiday for the schools, banks and the other government offices.The rest of the businesses get to decide for themselves.

Coming to the celebration, oh I love the sugared makhan my mom makes which is like the signature dish for this festival. We also celebrate it at midnight because that’s when Krishna😘 was born.
