If today bollywood is at its lowest form. Then using that same train of thought the 80s even had to be better. I wonder if everyone thinks that ?

Well at least the quality of stars was much better
Looks, Talent, Star Power, Screen Presence, Charisma etc
Songs - not as good as 70s or 90s but still better than now... Don't you think?

I think 2004/2005 have 298 of the best songs I’ve ever heard
Talent is there, sure enough(with regard to actors). But over exposure on all media, over ambitious PR antics, promotions every 3 months, interviews, hyped up link-ups and airport looks and whatnot have killed any kind of mystique.
Major disconnect on the part of the film makers and acting talent to the majority of their consumers outside urban areas. They simply have no clue how the rest of India dresses, eats or thinks outside 'cutesy' traditional costumes and accents. Some of their consumers have found solace in Hollywood movies and others with movies from the 5 southern states.Bollywood has no clue how to even write a proper rom-com or familiar tropes like father vs son, hero seeking revenge which it excelled at earlier. Other industries have taken up the slack.
Propaganda machine which defames Bollywood as 'druggies' and 'snobs' who deliberately keep out outsiders, constantly trying to provoke the audience against the domination of the Khans and the old Punjabi film families. There's also resentment against them for associating with and marrying without regard to religion and caste.
I think ott platform is the main reason
Bollywood stopped making tear jerking emotional movies. Action and action. Fake comedies. Bande pagal thodi na hai. Aur bhi Desh ki movies hai Jo humare taste ko suit karti hai. Aap nahi banaoge to hum kya kahi aur nahi jayenge.
Faltu movies, faltu remakes, wai ghise pite 4-5 faces, ghatiya music, overpriced tickets, I mean who is gonna pay so much for such crap content when you can watch the same nonsense after 1 month on your television, I would rather watch cartoons or old films. BW has declined, especially after pandemic.
1. Unwillingness to entertain good ideas because they haven't been proven
2. Inexperience with world outside Bollywood, leaving studios as their reference point.
3. Unwillingness to seek out and nourish new writing talent, acting talent, directing talent because risk.
4. Following trends instead of thinking for themselves. I mean a couple of Ayushman movies became hits, and YRF borrowed the theme with a bigger star and made a dud. Bahubali worked, and Shamshera was conceived.
5. Finally, a lack of education. Kajol should look at her own sector before lecturing the nation in selecting leaders. KJo prides himself on not reading. Most of the pretend readers actually don't. Shilpa Shetty thought Animal Farm was a kids book. Indian litt has so many stories to offer. Mani Ratnam could take Satyavan Savitri and make a Roja. Will Adi Chopra know the story of Vikramaditya and the courtesan? That would make an awesome spy thriller.
