Yup totally agreed! One of KJo’s weakest films. I only liked a few scenes like the dola re dance sequence, the bra scene, and the face off where Alia pushes Ranveer’s father. They carried a sense of novelty and freshness. Apart from these scenes every other scene was either too cliche, too half baked or just directly lifted from KJo’s past movies. Ranveer is unbearable in the first half with his ott antics. I couldn’t understand why Rani even falls for him. They make Dharamji and Shabana meet and sing songs and simultaneously start romancing and making out with eo lol. I mean i get the lust angle but then they show that Rani goes to Kashmir and starts missing him randomly and realises she loves him.. no context no build up nothing. I really expected that he would come to pursue her for real in Kashmir or may be save her from some mishap and ignite some sparks (Because it’s a KJo movie so expect cliches and since its Kashmir) but it never happened lol. And he like any other mcp is sulking in Delhi because she refused his proposal. Bhai you never confessed your love to her, never asked if she wants a rship and seedha went to propose shaadi, and then you get upset if she freaks out, Wah!

Talking about families? Rocky is unaffected by the situation at his home till Rani tells him otherwise and suddenly he develops respect for his mother and sister. What were you doing earlier bro? Playing an entitled useless son?

Also Dharam ji’s character kissing Shabana in front of his wife is so uncomfortable to watch. Irrespective of how hard Kjo tries to justify adultery it’s not ok.

Quite a passable movie , and now i can say Alia’s worst movies have been KJo directorials.. first soty now this.

Movie was very entertaining made on the usual karan johar template

Rocky a.k.a Ranveer was the soul of the movie

Loved him , he made me laugh , cry blush everything but achi feel good film

Most of the time I had a smile on my face .

But it was not about patriarchy vs matriarchy

Alias home ran on equality and matriachy tu Ranveer ke ghar pe thi and IMO matriarchy can be as suffocating as patriarchy basically one who is the position of power and abuses it is wrong be it a man or a woman

by overhyped i meant the ppl praising it like its the greatest movie, thrs a list of brainless but entertaining movies we’ve watched already. I had high expectations from a kjo movie but nothing khaas.

As someone who enjoyed the movie, all of y'all's criticisms are true and valid,I am just the kind of person who overlooks these if the movie is fun.

The major criticisms I agree with most are that rani was a typical SP bahu in her need and manner of improving rocky's family, and that rocky wasn't shown to ever bond with his mother and sister,i wish they had shown it so that him standing up for them would have made more impact.

I agree with the last part. If you don't mind could you share which part made you cry...?

Could you relate with whatever was happening in the movie?

bold - Do you think she crossed the line when she pushed him like that? I mean I know he was totally wrong but still he was an elderly guy.

I think all the things like body shaming , trolling etc are very much happening around us

Open an Instagram of a male Kathak dancer and see the comments but yes the film shows it in a dramatic way

The scene that made me cry was the scene with rocky and Rani's family where they hug it out .
