Cringiest category may be imo . But if that were the case , paun paun(SOS) should have been the ideal one to make the breakthrough earlier .

Just a look at nominations about India ever since reveal a clear preponderance of certain few themes over the rest . So , I am not much surprised .

Needless to remind btw one is living under the rock if the belief is these western awards are simply an innocuous acknowledgement of talent ; no any such thing as ulterior intentions .

Hollywood has a long (and excellent) tradition of musicals where song and dance often are the highlights of the movie.

I felt that they wanted to give the Indian Contribution to the diverse awards a recognition...and they chose something that will become popular and like a signature feature of an Indian movie (for those not familiar with them but familiar with musicals) for the GG and the Oscars.

I think they didn't want to award the Oscar/Golden Globe to the movie as such (there were other strong contenders).

In Slumdog Millionaire, the only awards going to India, were also music-awards, but it wasn't an Indian movie.

On the Wikipedia Site, there is a list of all the accolades RRR has received...looking at the dates, it is clear that the movie had a marathon of award functions in the US filmindustry...quasi a running up to the Oscars 😉 (no wonder that this needed a loooot of money - not to buy any award but to do the lobbying)
