I am glad someone said it. Sridevi took that child woman act too seriously. I could see it in her younger self act in Lamhe too.

She sometimes forgot character was mature and she did not need to behave like Sadma one or timid Anju one in any film just to show shyness or playfulness or nervousness.

I know actors repeat self in films but it becomes kind of cringey when they begin to become parodies of their own self even in real life interviews, stage shows or election rallies.

I think they overplay certain persona which in turn becomes their trademark or signature style.

I do think there should be time or place to show things. Hema does not need to behave like Basanti at an election rally.

But what to say to her? Sunny was repeating Tara Singh, Ghayal, Border, Gadar acts at rallies in 2019 too. It was so embarrassing to see him walk with plastic hand pumps!

I think it somewhat reduces stature of star's own talent and versatility too.

Like I said SRK has been more than just a romantic star. Amitabh has been way more than just angry young man. Aamir has been so versatile and done lighter roles too but he is now reduced to that serious message man, preachy pseudo intellectual. Salman is reduced to bhai image and seems to be stuck in Dabangg mode in real life too. I liked him better in 90s.

Like why to reduce your own diverse roles, work profile and persona to a small predictable label? Why pigeon hole yourself or overdo acts that do not even suit your age? You do not need to act like cute or child woman or manchild all life for eg. Or some heavyweight intellectual and never loosen up. Shabana for eg, irritates me with her inability to loosen up or lighten up at any point of time. Even roles she does are mostly sad or heavyweight. I was shocked to see her in old 70s films where she did comedy in Manmohan Desai films. I was like is this woman capable of smiling or being playful? Wow.

I dislike Nandita Das also for being heavyweight and too political all time and hardly loosening up. Her choice though. But it gets boring after a point of time.

it's irritating for u but for many people, it's entertaining. That's what they want. N i think 99% time, they are just themselves n 1% of a day they do stuff like walking with plastic hand pumps etc. But only that 1% is highlighted

So well said. Rekha especially has ruined her image and reduced herself to some unrequited lover of Amitabh. SRK was normal till 2001. IDK what happened to him later and he keeps repeating king of romance act even if not needed.

I think she knows what she's doing, she is doing it well and she is doing this to stay relevant...

Even very youngins, who don't know anything about movies or actors prior to the 90s, seem to be very aware of the Rekha-Absr saga...

Here on IF, there used to be topics discussing her shenanigans by members otherwise totally uninformed about older stars...

( Remember her joking about loving a married man during her Indian Idol apperance last year)

I feel it's well planned by her and she achieved what she wanted, that is staying relevant

Kangana is taking her new found deshbhakti too far. Always acts as if she lost work due to nationalism and ones who talk of breaking India get lot of work.

So true. I see Rekha going viral on Insta all the time and people considering her some feminist or queer icon for living on her own terms or her relation with Farzana or wearing sindoor till date and dressing up the way she wants despite being a widow.

And even men think she is some icon of true love and is like Meera and AB sr is her Krishna.

Almost everyone thinks AB should have married her and not Jaya and they hate Jaya.

But it saddens me how Rekha's acting, talent and strong roles, good BO record etc are ignored to solely focus on her glamour or as some Meera to AB sr.

It saddens me why Rekha also fans these rumours a lot.

She has also achieved what she wanted - in sense of making Jaya look like trash or unworthy for AB Sr and herself seeming like a much better, worthier, prettier, more articulate, charismatic choice.

Jaya with her outbursts and regressive views and aged appearance only looks more miserable in comparison. And online junta claiming AB should have married Rekha is basically like a victory for Rekha even if she did not get AB to dump Jaya for her or do some Hema like arrangement to keep 2 wives.

Rekha is lucky in that AB Sr is still alive and still kicking unlike his contemporaries, so she's able to put on this show

If (God forbid) that was not the case, what would she do to stay relevant 🤔 🤔 🤔

Well noticed. I can now recall how she went sort of underground and also gained weight by mid 90s but suddenly began to come back and do photo shoots and interviews once AB Sr made comeback.

I think Rekha is too much of an attention seeker and desperate. Self sabotaging. She has done some really cheap films in 90s to stay relevant. Especially that cheap film where she did sex scenes with Navin Nischol and Om Puri in older age during 90s. I forgot name but even its promos were hard to see on TV.

Or that bakwas film Mother where she has affaira with 3 men and no one knows who father of her daughter is.

Or bakwas item songs or that bakwas film with Akshay Kumar where she did intimate scenes with him.

I cringe when I see feminist sites or youth accounts on Insta promoting her as some icon. I mean I would not call her a role model.

I do agree with your point about AB Sr and Jaya being active in public life till date which allows this attention seeker to still use them to recreate Silsila memories. Had they retired or withdrawn from public life then God knows what more chippad films this lady would have done to stay relevant.

I sometimes think some celebs tend to overdo things they find, people like about them.

For eg, Madhuri smiles way too much and often keeps dancing everywhere or posts dance wali Insta reels, her app was also an online dance school and all her old videos, award performances are full of her smiling, laughing all time, even if not required.

I guess she has taken the compliments on dance and smile too seriously.

Rekha is another one who seems to have taken ageless compliment too literally and still dresses like Umrao Jaan in real life. Hema also seems to have taken dream girl or timeless beauty tag seriously and keeps showing off hwr eyes, beauty to camera at even parliament and election rallies.

There's Dharam who seems to have taken handsome tag seriously and still sports jet black dyed hair and smiles at cameras and poses like it is still early 1970s.

Aamir seems to have taken Mr perfectionist or thinking man's star tag too seriously and tries to project pseudo intellectual image in all interviews, hardly loosens up, starts getting technical on filmmaking aspects or speaks on some issue.

Amitabh seems to speak in stylised tone a lot more, and often goes a bit high pitched ever since he's learnt people love his booming baritone. He has a style and accent of speaking even in interviews or live shows.

SRK begins to crack wisecracks, jokes anywhere (which at times backfires or causes controversies) ever since he has been praised for his sense of humour and wit.

Kangana has taken her 'self made outspoken woman, deshbhakt' thing to another level as well and always acts as if she is on mission to expose industry.

Preity and Kajol seem to have taken their bubbly tag too seriously and still behave that cute/outspoken, bubbly way.

While celebs have their own speciality or image that makes them stand out, I feel some of them, after a point of time, simply begin to overdo it, which makes it look artificial and less organic.

Do you also feel weary or get sense of 'overdoing' when stars behave a certain way even till old age?
