I don’t know.. They didn’t even mention him in School books. And Gujarati medium schools sure weren’t much on Sports forget athletes. You could be right about system not being fair to him.

Post 1983 India got obsessed with cricket and cricketers.So there were rarely any other athletes who made huge fortune or got famous through their sport! Prakash Padukone was also at loggerheads with the then Badminton association of India in the 90's and formed a parallel association to oust the babu's from administration. But once that was done he was sidelined. Today's Badminton association of India is actually established by him.But it is also true that his resurgence as a celebrated athlete came when Deepika actually got successful and famous. He was well known but not to the level that he's today. It actually is heartening to see a daughter overturning the fortunes of the family for better!!
