Additional context: Mumbai mein being "South" Mumbai is a relative and controversial topic. E.g. Juhu, which ReturnToHades categorically called Central Mumbai, can be considered South Mumbai by someone living in e.g. Andheri or further up north. Juhu resident will tell Andheri guy that he's too north to be in Mumbai, while a Dadar guy will tell the Juhu guy that actually YOU're too north to be in Mumbai. You get the gist... It's all contextual based on where you're located....

Oh Ok, not a Mumbaikar so couldn't get it earlier :D but thanks for an elaborated answer.

Jaise Hollywood se Bollywood hua, SoCal se SoBo.

Isliye merko funny lagtay jab public bolti, "You know in SoBo everyone be speaking English. Bruh."

SoBo was coined after SoHo, a neighborhood in Manhattan. SoHo comes from South of Houston Street.

It's not just a phenomenon among BW families, even upper middle class nuclear families exclusively speak English to the point that grandparents find it hard to communicate with their grandkids because the kids don't speak mother tongue or whatever be the local vernacular.

It's hilarious because the parents would talk in hindi or whatever with each other but with kids they speak in English. 😆 it's to do with the schools that exclusively promote English over any regional language. Some schools even have the option to opt for French/German etc substituting Hindi/Sanskrit. Also, the mentality that local vernacular is down market and English bestows some status symbol doesn't help either.

That is sad. Those poor grandparents. These parents are going to regret such obnoxious way of raising kids.
