Protests were there in Odisha. I was a kid at that time and SRK fan. I wanted the movie to release in Odisha so that I can watch, but people didn't let Ashoka to release here due to the way they represented Kaurwaki. They burnt the posters, effigies etc. Even my father was dead against the movie as he said it was historically innacurate. The representation of Kaurwaki was wrong too. She wasn't princess of Kalinga (now Odisha). She was a commoner.

I can understand, had I been old enough to decide for myself, I wouldn't have watched the movie too...

There used to be a show about Samrat Ashoka, Kaurawaki in that show was nothing short of a joke... peeps used to have a field day bashing her in the forum... 😆

If you are talking about colors tv show Samrat Ashoka ? I was so excited for that show but that show made Ashoka as some daya ka murthi and very much of a saint which is totally different from what i read (i felt maybe there are other versions of Ashoka story) and left the show before grown up Ashoka entered the show....

It was more about Karuwaki than Ashoka or Kaling yudh.

That was very disappointing.

Was expecting to see all the details of the events that led to the war of Kaling

That must be Chakravartin Samrat Ashok. It started off well but then it became very tv serialish with a female foreigner vamp and exaggeration. Kaurwaki's character was meh in that serial.

SRK in this film was such a treat to the eye. You realise just how amazing he looked when you watch this god-awful parody and the sheer creepiness of the guy at 2:45 onwards 🤣
