Movies like KKHH and DDLJ made such sexism palatable and helped normalize it.

When did KKHH and DDLJ say women shouldn't get education or work? Can't remember that. Also Indian movies were generally about how pure India is and how degenerate the west is back then, that's less about sexism and in general just pushing your country as the great one (see movies like Pardes which portrayed Indian men living in the west as bad too).

Good or bad its normal. You don't see western movies pushing Indian culture or any other culture as the great one either.

For peeps who claim *most* men prefer such women, here are lists, one Western, one Indian😆:

Articles like this mean nothing and don't represent most men, especially Indian Men (comments even noticed as well). Maybe some richer upper class men but that's about it.

Its not sexist to prefer more feminine women, women generally prefer more masculine men as well. Maybe things are changing in the west here but in India its still different. denying that based on one article seems strange.

A middle class Indian girl from U.K., not some cloistered chick from a remote village, being married off at 16/17?

A girl leaving college because she didn't get the guy?

You seriously believe that was Indian culture back then?

As someone who was actually alive at the time, I can tell you it was nowhere near normal.

You seriously believe it was okay and normal to wave a bra in a girl's face and make her think they had sex when she was drunk?

Again, not normal. Not right. 100% sexual harassment.

And promoting it as Indian culture!

For one Rahul was supposed to be one of those rich upper class men.😆

And dear God! You're now defending sexist tropes in the name of fandom.😆

A fan in the original sense of the word.

I think I'm done here. No way will I ever put my identity as a woman, as a human, below my liking for any celeb.

I don't get why it's so difficult for some women to understand that men are attracted to femininity in a woman? and why does it irk them so much?😆 Is it the only thing we're attracted to? no, but no-one made that point.

Just show a thousand straight men a picture of Nora Fatehi and some tomboy woman, and ask them who they're attracted to. The answer shouldn't surprise anyone.😆

Arranged marriages have been always part of indian culture, even with NRI's. Now things are improving but 25+ years ago I don't see how a strict father marrying off his daughter after learning that she is becoming more "western" is somehow unrealistic. Also she definitely wasn't 16.

The movie didn't portray SRK's character in that scene as the "nice" one at all. He regretted it and apologized. The whole point of the movie is that he changes for Simran. You seem focused on him being a sexist and forget how he treated her father in the beginning for an example. he was a dick. Then later he changes and proves himself as worthy.

Hence her change to deep femininity & ‘Adab’ a decade or so, on. We can argue etc that Rahul was an immature kid, a young man, bla bla bla. But bottom line is- You can be attracted to whoever you want, you just don’t need to be a dick about it. :)

They were both dicks to each other. That was the foundation of their friendship. You can literally see that in the Ye Kaisa Ladka Hai/Ye Kaisi Ladki Hai song. They’re both insulting one another then making up after the chorus but he’s/she’s your best friend yaar. Anjali only began experimenting and taking interest in feminine things once she fell for Rahul and wanted his attention. That’s like back in the days (10 years ago), I realised my crush was a fan of the Arsenal soccer club, and I started to research shit about the rubbish team just so I could impress him. No big deal. I was a dumbass back in those days.

The movie didn’t show anything to suggest that Anjali became feminine after 8 years because of the supposed trauma faced by Rahul. That’s just an assumption. Nobody told her to stop playing basketball either. Unless her always winning somehow traumatised her too. It was implied that she outgrew her tomboy/sporty phase and it’s not like Rahul was there to influence her. She did all of that in his absence without ever thinking she’ll meet him again.

So I’m gonna have to disagree. We both clearly see the movie from different perspectives. My main point was that having preferences shouldn’t be shamed or criticised. Rahul found feminine girls more attractive. I find masculine guys more attractive. I’m not going to be apologetic for having a type and nor should he.

First article doesn’t mention the sample size of the experiment, barring one study that had 400 participants. Basically it’s not an accurate representation of the majority. Second article lists things guys find attractive about women other than their appearance. Lol the title itself is telling us that appearance is a factor but for the purpose of this article, it’ll be excluded. The lists (sense of humour/success/intelligence) are things you find out about people once you interact with them.

However, appearance is the first thing you notice in a person. Of course if we’re talking about the virtual world where you maintain anonymity, then that’s different. But even online, guys/girls on social media get DM’s or attention once they’ve caught the attention of someone who’s interested in them after liking how they looked based from their photos.
