hahk as a film was iconic, but not her role. There is nothing as such special in that role. All she did was just playing herself and hip - shaking dances.

And devdas, again her role was mostly concerned with dances. And if u really want to chandramukhi go and see Vyjayanthimala's portrayal of chandramukhi. You will see the difference. Also, as far as tawaif roles are concerned, none of them are as iconic as Pakeezah and Umrao Jaan.

Lastly, for her acting, see her in hahk and dtph. You will see no difference because its not two characters, its only madhuri herself.

Ridiculous, Madhuri's roles in HAHK and Devdas are some of the most iconic in Bollywood history. Switch out Madhuri in HAHK and the movie would never be this iconic. She often overshadowed her male co stars in the 90s, you don't do that just with dancing. I don't like movies like Beta but it became a blockbuster because of Madhuri.

Comparing her with Katrina who never overshadows anyone and none of her roles are really memorable. Madhuri's acting is far superior, her expressions alone put Katrina's bland acting to shame

Kajol was more dominant in the second half and Madhuri in the first. Overall both were the top actresses of the 90s

Well it happened at least with 3 movies, Beta, HAHK and Raja and she was a huge part of those movies becoming so successful. She was even paid more for HAHK than Salman too

And overshadowing male co stars and even earning more than some of them was pretty unique back then, we are talking about the early 90s here.

She also shined in Devdas, her role was praised the most.

Overall you don't have to like her but putting her on Katrina's level is ridiculous.

Dear God! Comparing the likes of Katrina and Aishwarya to Madhuri frigging Dixit!

Madhuri and Sridevi were the Amitabh Bachan type actresses of the 80s and 90s. They could bring in audiences on their own strengths. No female actor since Mads has had the same pull. Male stars readily took 2nd billing to these divas because they were genuine superstars.

ETA. I'm not a fan of Mads. I think she is an average performer whose sex appeal trumped everything else. But her stardom is absolutely undeniable.

Deepika because she is a better actor and has some memorable characters to her credit-
