I started watching Kabhi kabhie. When Pooja (Rakhi) told Amit (Amitabh) to elope he refused and told her to listen to her parents and marry Shashi kapoor. Why didnt he propose to her parents? Looks like he is quite rich and good looking..an established poet. So why didnt he sent proposal? Then spent the whole film sulking about it!! I am very confused!

Yess!! Kabhi kabhie, one of my favourite movies. Shashi looked dreamy on this one, no mention his character so funny, hyper, romantic and etc. Loved him .

Ohh!! The answers to the question:

  1. Amitabh respects her parents and their decision.
  2. He knows their choice will never be wrong in fact maybe better than him.
  3. He wants her parents happy and their honour will always be preserved, don't ask about Rakhi and her feelings. It is non existent.
  4. He doesn't want her parents to know that their daughter had loved a man and made a decision about her life without their permission. She should always be their little girl.

He made all this assumptions without even knowing her parents and made the decision to give up without trying.

I don't know why he even fall in love and be with her at all if he is so sansakar.

I guess he is a poet and he must have heard that to be the real poet, one should fall in love and most importantly get heartbroken.

This is the real reason he don't want to approach her parents.

I was watching K3G the other day, and I thought "why doesn't SRK instead of leaving town with newly wed Kajol, he should just give two slaps to Amitabh_ji and refuse to leave the house". Problem solved.

Kajol could perform 2-3 songs and try to convince Jaya_ji and Big B that she is a perfect housewife. And Karan_ji wouldn't even need to spend so much money going to shoot in London.

LOL! I know! I was so confused and had to get some answers. I logged in to IF after months just to know this. It was bugging me so much!! And it's not that he was an unemployed poet..his father was so rich ..he was asking Amitabh to take control of his business!!

And yes, as you said Rakhee kept asking to reconsider but Amitabh respects her parents more than her so he took the decision for both of them!! And then gifted his book to her as a grand gesture! He gaslighted Rakhee for feeling bad about giving up his poet life ..blah.

He just didnt want to get married so took this opportunity get out!! He didnt mind kissing her or doing all those jhapajhapi on open field but felt sankskari for her parents without even meeting them!! What was his plan then?? How would he thought they would get married if he doesnt meet her parents! So many questions without answers!! And Amitabh was such a jerk in that film to wahida. A real head scratcher for me.

Umm...sorry no matter how bad someone is..if they are older...slapping is out of question. I think that's better. SRK had the merit to do it from scratch..he didnt need Amitabh for that. He did really well without any help..that's always better.

Frankly none of the YRF and Johar movies gave the woman a voice!!!! Like none of them!!!

I watched Chandni and realized dahck the woman is taking care of you on a wheelchair and you decide for her, Tu hai Kaun?!?! Let her decide for herself,

Worse yet, he gets out of the wheelchair and she goes back to him, why because her half decent boss sacrificed her…

Dude, in the movie, Rishi Kapoor stops Chandni from speaking up when his mom and sister behave rudely to her,….like awfulness!!!
inn sab mei Chandni kya chahti hai?!?

this is exactly the same in every movie from those two camps - doormat women

For all of Mahesh Bhatt’s otherwise questionable behavior, one thing you can’t take away from his movies - even the most trite ones like DHKM where Pooja Bhatt is childish - but her character has her say- to of course the superb Arth - where the female character mike drops!

PS:: So so sorry post was about Kabhi Kabhi and I went on my rant, but as you can see, it was bottled up for awhile. Sarieforwordvomit!

You've described pretty much all mainstream Bollywood movies.

And I am confused about Muqaddar Ka Sikander. Amitabh has Rekha throwing herself at him and he is pining for Rakhee who friend-zoned him as a kid. wtf? 😆
