Which era of Bollywood was your favourite?

The "golden era" (1940s-60s), or the 70s with the focus on the angry young man type of character (made popular by Amitabh) rebelling against the system?

Or the 90s-early 2000s with the focus on family drama's & romances? Not to mention appealing to the NRI market became more popular here. I guess the current era is all about biopics and patriotism focused movies.

Which is your favourite?

Maybe I'm nostalgic or cheesy but I enjoyed 90s-early 2000s Bollywood the most (especially as a huge fan of SRK). That era had the most entertaining movies (which is what I care about, not if its award worthy), best stars, best songs (with legendary singers like Udit, Sonu, Kumar, Alka, Shreya) etc.

90s-2000s for sure. Basically up until 2010ish. The romance and family-drama movies was just something else. I still rewatch old romantic movies and the likes of Pardes and Kal Ho Na Ho still gets my heart pounding. I think the last BW movie I genuinely loved was Bajrangi Bhaijaan. 🥲

SRK movies when he used to mix it up with both Darr/Bazigar/Anjaam and DDLJ kinda roles with an occasional Yes Boss, Pardes, etc. thrown in.

I loved him in Koyla, Karan Arjun, Chaahat where Bahubali's queen was fatally obsessed with him 😆, Josh, etc.

and then of course, loved him in KKKG and KKHH.

SRK ruled that entire era and as much of a shocker as it might be for some

I loved Salman too back then till his image shattering public antics and relationship exposes. I have watched Maine Pyar Kiya the cheesfest for about 456336356 times, liked him in Karan Arjun, PKDK, loved him in KKHH, and then HDDCS.

That entire era defines bollywood for everyone who grew up watching the 90's and early 2000s movies/songs. For some reason, I was never into Aamir movies except Dil Chahta Hai for how he pretty much steals the bride at the end.😆

90's ❤️ Srk-Salman-Aamir's those romantic movies..

(I love literally all Salman's movies of 90's (Prem type) but don't like his after 2010's except some)

2000's - Preity Zinta-Saif Ali khan-Rani's movies

2010's- Imran Khan's, Ranbir's movies

Basically all sweet movies 😆

Also those Akshay-Paresh Rawal type comedy movies

Sangharsh - Akshay-Preity

Ek Hasina Thi - Saif/Urmila

Dushman - Kajol

Darr - SRK

You don't like these? 😆

Sweet movies are firmly lodged in my memory cuz they define bollywood for me but there are some pretty compelling dark themed movies too, which you might just enjoy! You never know, you might surprise yourself! I am a big fan of all things dark, but not outright horror.

Yeah SRK was no doubt the Nr.1 actor back then, the hype for him was unreal and he delivered blockbusters regulary. Many these days think that the likes of K3G, DDLJ etc. have badly aged but I still love rewatching them. Way more fun than Bollywood movies these days imho.

That era also had great actresses who were all unique like Aishwarya, Rani, Kajol, Juhi etc. These days actresses just seem to lack something

KKKG and DDLJ haven't aged badly..... they're iconic movies that people often revisit and their dialogs are incorporated in daily conversations too, when you're being extra cheesy. Times have changed but that doesn't mean people who grew up watching them suddenly view them in a new light just cuz they're too "enlightened" for it now. Those movies were all too timely when they came out--and their success and the impact they made on people back then will last forever, it doesn't wear away just cuz everyone's too woke now. I don't really buy the fake cynics online who trash 90's and 2000's movies while enjoying Student of the Year 2 full of plot holes and drooling over Ananya anyway!

Yeah I think some woke/snobby people like to bash the most popular movies of the 90s and 2000s but I think they are more fun to watch than Bollywood movies these days. "Romantic" movies like Kabir Singh or ADHM & Student of the year movies were actually lackluster yet were very popular..

Bajrangi Bhaijaan was surprisingly great, not a fan of most Salman movies in the last decade but that movie was incredible and very emotional.

Not really feeling dumb masala movies like Simmba or the constant boring biopics

I liked Darr, Bazigar..they were not that gruelsome..

But, I can't watch too scary movies ...Some days ago, there was talk of 'Shakti' movie here. I tried watching, but just couldn't 😅 ..I couldn't even reach Srk part, already was too much for me..

Just some pics of Ashutosh Rana of Sangharsh make me uncomfortable, haven't dared to watch the movie 😆Didn't know about Dushman..

I have to be able to watch though...I am going to watch some like an assignment someday, 😆
