Jennifer is a popular TV actress who gained lot of fame and accolades for the role of Maya in Beyhadh 1. As a neutral, I am saying before beyhadh her popularity got kinda overshadowed by her personal life. I remember people used to talk more about her personal life and call her an average actress. Her strong portrayal of Maya made everyone notice her talent and she finally proved she is a good actress. Then came Bepannaah which ended abruptly due to low trps. Code m turned out to be an online hit and Jennifer garnered praises as she took up a different role. Then she did Beyhadh 2 and in my opinion it was probably the biggest mistake of her career. A concept like Beyhadh 2 is more fit for webseries than a daily soap. Also, Sony and the producer Prateek focused more on Jennifer's star power than the story. They gave more importance to glamorizing Maya and making her seduce two young men in the name of revenge and feminism more than making a good show. The show may have ended due to lockdown (as her fans claim) but the fact is Beyhadh 2 was the biggest disappointment for the channel as well as her career. I really hope Jennifer never plays Maya again. If she's again offered the same role hope she makes sure the story and her character are good.
I agree on one point you made, BH2 had a concept which is too early for TV. They could’ve made a kickass web series out of it.
I disagree with the rest. Everyone has a different interpretation of fiction, hear out mine. Beyhadh 1 rode on JW’s shoulders, through and through. Jen even said that they were just trying to figure out in S1 - how beyhadh can the audience accept. As long as Jen was able to get the audience on the same line as Maya, makers kept showing all sorts of nonsense after a point. People still stuck with the show, at least 40% of them for JW, I’m sure.
Now, they had explored Maya enough in S1, so they focussed on weaving a story with the same concept of maya- her beyhadh-ness. And I totally disagree that BH2 didn’t have a story. I think the USP of S2 was it’s storytelling than Maya alone. Each character has equal power as Maya to be able to flip the dynamics..unlike in S1 where Maya kept winning (ugh).
Maya was more glamorous & fashionable in S1😆
The only mistake makers made was promoting S2 as a thriller. They should’ve sold it as a love revenge tragedy.
BH2 flopped on the TRP front, but I’m so glad she took this show. Short lived, but I enjoyed every bit. I’m sure there are many like me.
Also, beyhadh 2 did go off air because of the lockdown. Yes, TRPs were too low, but I believe the team managed to convince the channel for letting the show complete it’s run (hence the tweet of Jen clarifying that she did differ on the proposal of going OTT. They convinced the channel for running on TV. Unfortunately, the lockdown meant the PH can’t afford to maintain the sets for long with that kind of ratings. The logical conclusion was going off air. After going off air, Jen did say that they were supposed to run the show till May. 6 months long run, exactly what it was meant to be since the start).
I don’t think beyhadh will have another installment. Nor will Jen want it. I remember during S1 she said that she doesn’t want to take the risk of a second season because “what if it doesn’t work”. S2 did happen, I feel the team did their absolute best to deliver a show bigger & better than S1. Definitely a much better show imo, unfortunately not bigger than S1.
