For me, I LOVE the character of Piku. The movie is good, but the characterization of Piku makes it special. Here is a woman who is flawed, grumpy, even bitter and yet she is so raw and real. She strikes a chord immediately. I know I have come across characters like her in real life - real women who are fighting battles no-one knows about, having meltdowns, yet emerging stronger and unbreakable with time. Piku's story may seem too simple - it does not offer shocks or surprises, but the character is so endearing because most of us are like that, irrevocably flawed, not perfect.

And Deepika does a brilliant job of portraying Piku I must say, so nuanced, so subtle, so effecive. The most layered performance of hers.

As Anupama Chopra says and I agree fully with her --"Piku is first a triumph of writing. There is no plot to speak of, but Juhi Chaturvedi – who has written the story, screenplay and dialogue – creates such strong characters that we don’t lose interest."

Might sound pretentious, but I loved how truly bengali it was and not stereotypically bengali. I think its for the first time I saw a bw movie show my culture in a realistic and grounded way. Or else its always such a stereotypical bookreading dancing in durgapuja with big bindi depiction😆

I liked how they conveyed the daughters pov aswell

Indian cinema heavily romanticises family relationships...like taking care of your parents is the most basic thing and it should be a piece of cake to do it...it isn’t

But the older they get, they grapple with their own issues (health, psychological) and the relationship with them really starts to strain ...u don’t want it to...u still love your parents and would prioritise them over everything ...but the daily kit kit, paranoia abt health, being heavily dependent etc does wear u Down...particularly if you are young and have ur own family or are looking to date/ find a partner/ start a family ...

I’ve seen this with my dad and my grandparents and also my mum and her parents

I don’t think there is a solution as such...it’s just a reality we all live with

The film conveyed that wonderfully ...it didn’t “solve” all pikus problems ...it just told us this is her reality...it’s tough .....she is just more at peace with it by the end of the film
