Why a singer can not be as big as an actor in India?

A singer in india has always been considered a vocal instrument but in west a singer is a brand of himself micheal jakson outshine tom cruise popularity but in india a sonu nigam or arijit singh xyz can never become as big as shahrukh or salman etc why is that so ? considerably in india Sonu nigam is a greater talent than some of these actors his live concerts are full of energy but he can never compete the popularity of indian actors but if he belonged to west he would have been a brand of himselt or next to Micheal jakson thing ....so why india never give much importance to singing talent as an individual brand ,,they only see a singer that he is suiting shahrukh or salman face or not , rafi is better with amitabh or kishore etc etc ,,,,why is this a general mentality for indian singers which is not the case in west .....

Guess the answer is that the hero is seen onscreen doing multitasking. He is super hero; fight, run, jump, drive every kind of transport, decode everything, trick anyone, romance, emote sad, angry, happy, laugh, cry, sing dance, so the connection is deeper.

Simple. Labels and actors did not let it happen. And then some of the music fraternity started worshipping said labels and actors so that they'd work instead of holding a united front.

that is sad state for musician in india ...salman khan once said to sonu nigam that i need a playback singer now in my films i can sing my own songs thats why he dubbed sonu song in kick which was hangover ...after this incident sonu and salman never worked together , neither salman allow sonu to sing in his films

Yeah, in Bollywood they aren't.. but if we take Punjabi cinema foe example, the singers/artists are super popular and then join acting. And the only reason audience goes to watch the movies is because they're fond of their singing usually. Maybe other regional cinemas have this too, not sure.

I guess it’s the person who decided Bollywood films need soundtracks. They set all this in motion

My heart goes out to the playback singers of bollywood. Most of them are extremely talented and can easily perform and wow the audience on stage too.... and it looks extremely unfair when they're stuck just playback singing cuz they don't have enough platforms to showcase their singing and performing talents.

Sonu had some pretty impressive solo albums in the beginning .... I'm not sure how new singers make waves these days apart from that one song in that one movie they sing *really* well, which then gets praised to the skies and goes on to *earn* them a Filmfare award ... cuz *someone* refers them and then eventually they start singing all the songs left and right.

One of my biggest pet peeves is actors trying to sing their own songs and smoothing out their shitty singing with autotune. And when they are asked to sing a line in real, hey can't even hold a tune to save their own faces.

I don't know why they can't just hit a karaoke bar with their buddies to rid the urge to sing and have their buddies give them all the accolades in the world for their "amazing" singing ... and spare the audience! Do they really want people to believe that they can actually sing when it's pretty obvious that they can't?!

Salman's Hangover and Alia singing Main Tenu Samjhawan comes to mind right away. They should stick to bathroom singing cuz no one wants to hear them croon otherwise.

It makes me sad coz I wanna see an Indian girl/boy band. Imagine an Indian blackpink/bts. Wild 😂 Seriously though, music is a huge market. I don't understand why they don't want to invest in that. I know there's mad talent in the country, just going to waste. Music >>>>>> movies for me any day.
