Nepotism is squarely to blame for this imo...

The problem would be solved if big production houses went back to conducting open auditions and selecting the best people

I don't think he had any choice but to pick those... the better scripts are always given to nepos

It's about statistics. The stars of the 90's and 2000's are still relevant today, because of lack of alternatives. Just check out Ormax and the top 5 stars in each decade.

Yep that's partly why the Khans and Akshay Kumar are still playing 25 year olds, because people would rather pay to watch them than most of the actual 25-35 year olds in the industry

Na he made a really good position for himself after Dhoni.. He has been good with his performances in KPC, SDR, DBB and even that small role in PK.. Now I know he didn't have these great acting chops but he surely had good screen presence and was very smart with his choices.. He then was the only outsider who was a true competition to RK, RS, Varun etcetc as Ayushmaan and Kartik were not really in picture. Had he done some better movie post Dhoni instead of Raabta he could have been in a different league.. I think even Half GF would have been better choice.. Raabta, Drive and even Chanda mama door ke were just bad choices and I am sure he had better options than those. If he would have stuck by Maddock like Kriti and Rkr he would have had few more films in his kitty and some of them would have worked too..From what I know he also let go off few good scripts too. Anyway it doesn't matter now

It is sad that he seemed completely lost after Dhoni and couldnt capitalize on its success. Raabta ,Drive really did affect his career and most of his movies were being delayed.Even Dil Bechara also wasn't that good. And all that training for Paani and it finally getting shelved and leaving yrf affected him I feel, maybe he would have said no to a lot of projects citing that😔.Dunno what happened to him to make such script choices, but maybe he wanted to do rom coms and a KJos movie to become a more popular face like Varun,Sid that time and the concept would have seemed fine on paper. But after Kedarnath he seemed to be back on track focusing on scripts.

Wish there was a bit more professionalism in Bollywood,so that such stuff can be avoided

I do think this was due to nepos being handed all the better roles, which severely limited his options...

But like you said, either way it doesn't matter now 😒💔

There seems to be too much of groupism in Bollywood. You need to get into a camp to get movies. Its not a good sign tbh,Also there is so much of gap brought between television and bollywood, while we dont see that in the west much. Its all about the attitude.

Its a blessing to get a good mentor here.I wonder how Parineeti who was supposed to be the next big thing got lost.We can blame it on her weight jaap but I feel bollywood does have a part in making her insecure more than the audience. She herself said recently that whatever advices she listened too wasnt working out at all.Actors should start trusting their own gut instincts too a bit

Well it is what it is and it will never change ever. The maximum directors can do is pair up nepo kid and outsiders and make movies to reduce the backlash.

I adore Taapsee Pannu myself. I'm not saying you are not open to new stars. I know you are. But you have to admit nostalgia plays a role, in some way at least, no?

Stastitics huh? Gurl, then how are we going to compare/contrast someone with 6-7 years of a career versus someone with 30+ years.

Even Salman Khan and Aamir Khan didn't become Super Stars until 10 years into their Filmography. I think it's safe to say that happened in 1997/1998.

We have to also consider, that this current generation is a brand new generation, the previous generation of Deepika, Anushka, Katrina, Priyanka is still going strong (popularity wise).

The Alia's, Kriti's, Taapsee's still need 2-4 more years of groundwork, when they cross the 10-12 year mark in their careers, then we can compare them to previous generation. This early into the mix, it's all up in the air.

The biggest reason I feel is because most of them are like generic, factory made products. Almost all of them look the same. I still cannot differentiate between kiara, tara and so many of them, almost all them look the same, have the same personality, talk the same, wear the same clothes, for an older person like me I really cannot tell the difference. Heroes also like have to be same, everybody needs to have a bod, dance, do action etc. etc. No one really has their own distinct personality--a quality that lead to the long life of older actors. They were the best in what they did and not everybody tried to do everything be it govinda for dancing, jackie, anil sanjay for bhaigiri, sunny and suniel for action etc. etc. Now just everybody is doing the same thing, nobody has made a niche for themselves except Ranvir and that too just for his clothes not acting.

Another reason I think with so much to consume in form of entertainment people are no more star crazy like before and with social media where you can see what your stars are up to all the time, the charisma, the mystery of being a star is gone and unlike before, with online platforms the actors are just so so many, no more like before where just a handful 10 would be considered stars with all movies being distributed between them.
